Davis and other lesser receivers owe their roster spots more to Angelo's scouting incompetence than to favoritism. Moore is competing for a part-time spot on Carolina's bad defense. I don't think his demotion held the Bears back from anything. You have to play who you have, even if what you have isn't any good.

Lovie ruled through the iron fist of fear and intimidation.

I don't know if you're just joking here, but anecdotally, that seems to not be the case.

In other words, hire Trestman to be the offensive coordinator and leave Lovie at head coach/DC?

Sometimes women just have opinions with no facts or evidence to back them up.

Lovie and Angelo enabled each other. They were like peas and carrots.

Lovie will get his 2nd chance. Don't cry for him. He had a long tenure here. He was a SB runner up. We all know his flaws and that's why he's gone. If he gets a good QB and a good OC, he'll do fine at his next stop. He's gotta luck into a good OC cuz he doesn't know what one is. Or the GM has to pick it for him.

Good point, but who knows if Lovie would have ever gotten as serious about the offense as he was about the defense. It cost him his job.

true, but he did such a good job on defense it almost got him a title... in an era where offense has all the advantages...

Lovie is winning games for the Bears still. Yesterday should go on his record.

There aren't many GM's interested in hiring a defense oriented head coach...not to mention a guy who is smug, arrogant & condescending towards the media & fans. He'll end up like Jauron & Wanny as a defensive coordinator somewhere, which is where he belongs.

I don't know how they are causing turnovers without Lovie showing them how to punch balls.

Maybe we overestimated Lovie's influence on their ability to do this.

Because it's the same defense with the same players and considering the success they had they kept his philosophy.

Even after today as I watch this team, Lovie was nothing more than a really good DC!

His OL's sucked, his offenses sucked and his ability to select OC's was terrible!

When he got more power to select players like Johnny Knox and Kellen Davis, they sucked.

Lovie had an 8 year run here, had got chance after chance to fix things, which most coaches dont get, and yet, he never got it right.

Please dont use his "Super Bowl Runner Up" as a reason he is a good coach! He beat the Seahawks ...in OT and then Rex had a couple of good throws to beat an average at best Saints team, so before he is a "Super Bowl" coach, we know what he really was, a Really Good DC!

Same can be said for Dick Jauron! Another guy who got more than his fair chance, had some really good (and Lucky) plays that got him a 13-3 record. He would be below Lovie on my coaching levels.

You're diminishing Lovie's leadership ability. Whether you believe he selected the players or not he consistently won with an awful offense. In all the years he was here his teams never quit on him and going into every season you felt the Bears had a chance to win it all. Getting the most out of his talent and giving you a shot to win every year is the sign of a very good coach.

The Bears STILL use the same defensive calls they did under Lovie.

That awful offense was his leadership. He got the most out his elite talent on defense, good for him. I can't believe with some of his statistics or even watching games you think he was a very good coach.

This team is playing better than I had expected this year. I don't know if it will continue but at least I'm interested again.

Cutler lost that game yesterday.

Yep...his throws seemed to lack any zip. Maybe his sugar levels were off, or Suh was making him nervous.

It was more giving the Lions a short field in the first half. They took advantage and scored 24 points. The Bears played like the Bengals did in week one: mistake after mistake, only the Lions converted those mistakes into at least 31 points.

Speaking of Cutler, what's with his constant neck adjustment? Seems like he tilts/twists his head every play before the snap...just a nervous twitch, or are his neck vertebrae fucked up?

Absolutely. Cutler was actually 3rd on the list in terms of 'bad', yesterday. It is just unfortunate that this town cannot get past the Cutler narrative that has been forced down our throat.

It has always been a chicken or the egg thing with Cutler. Which comes first? Bad Cutler play or bad line/offense/drops/playcalling etc etc. I can only really recall two games where Cutler just wet the bed without any help from the rest, of what was a typically a massively dysfunctional offense and coaching staff.

The offense looked decent yesterday until a switch was flipped. It does give some credence to the Idonije line calls thing. That or the offense just regressed after driving down the field two times.

Yeah I've always been part of the Cutler narrative. His passes and decision making yesterday was atrocious. Being behind that early in the game by as much as they were was his fault.

yeah ive noticed it too, more this year then in the past but he has always done it. its weird, i wonder if he has a tight muscle in his neck, or something that just needs to be constantly tweaked.. like a jaw pop or something. it does give the impression that hes annoyed for no reason, but i dont think he means to do it for any reason.

Cutler's constant neck twitch is most likely a nervous tick. It looks as if he's doing it subconsciously and not trying to work out a kink in the muscle.

Another nervous tick Jay has is throwing off this back foot instead of stepping up in the pocket. This mechanical hitch is ingrained in his head and unless he goes through some intensive conditioning, he will always resort to this when under pressure because he knows nothing else. He most likely has been doing this since High School and will never get it out of his system.

It would be interesting to see if his neck twitch subsides/intensifies during games where they are winning vs. losing. I do not remember seeing this during the Pittsburgh game, but did notice it a lot during the Lions games while he was on the bench.

That being said I'm not making fun of this, just adding my .02 from my Child Psych class in college.

I'm done with any attempt to "fix" Cutler's mechanics. That ship has sailed, and that was like four years ago. At 30, he's not going to fix anything. Just work with him as-is, bad mechanics and all.

This Bears team is what they have always been. Beating up on tomato cans, occasionally beating a good team on a down year or at the start of the year, and then getting beat by the true cream of the class.

I was hopeful with a new coach, offensive scheme and added offensive targets, but so far this is the same old shit.

Mediocre.

If they reach the bye at 5-2, then I'll turn my full attention back to them.

I still think they lose to NYG.
