Frank you forgot about most of the first half when the offense only had 1 first down. The defense had been on the field because of a lack of offensive production. Some of those sacks came because Cutler didn't read the blitz. He has the ability to change the plays. Sure that Pierre touchdown was bad but when do you stop making excuses for Cutler?

I miss Jim Miller. And yeah, maybe Orton'd be a better fit.

Finding a serviceable QB isn't hard.

Is this your first season as a Bears fan?

This isn't your fathers NFL or even your early 20's NFL. There are a lot of serviceable QB's in the league. Alex Smith doesn't have Cutler's talent but very rarely does he hurt your team and he doesn't make $15-20M.

That's what you want: serviceable. But you need improvements elsewhere as well. The D line needs an overhaul. I'm sorry but the new improved O line's been getting bitchslapped the past 2 games. Your two targets are Bennett and Forte? I mean, shit, you might as well send Hester out there, again. The rules work against the return team, right now...

Disagree about the offense. Cutler has 5 legitimate targets to throw the ball to. Sure Bennett dropped a coupe of passes but he is usually sure handed. The Bears are 2-3 right now if it wasn't because of his catching ability and footwork. Forte is arguably the best pass catching TE.

And halfway through the year in 2012 the Bears on pace to be 14-2. Quality of opponents in the NFL makes a big difference when stats are projected a quarter of the way into a season.

That's the thing about criticizing Cutler though...you bring up some good points against him, but when you praise the TE and WRs, you're also praising Cutler for throwing it into tight windows, or to spots that no DB can reach.

Yeah but those two are primary targets. If I were the other teams' defense, I'd know what I'd do (cover 'em all day.)

I think I am just about ready to change my view on this. I still think Cutler is better than or as good as the rest of the QB middle class (Flacco, E. Manning, Big Ben, etc.), but McCown's play has really underscored Cutler's inability to just take what the defense gives him. Cutler's elite arm is a welcome luxury more often than not, as Leash mentioned, but his strong arm makes him fall in love with the big play too much, which leads to inexplicable throws into double coverage when something like a dump off to Forte would suffice.

McCown goes through his reads, and executes the throws that are available to him. Cutler may have more throws available to him because of his skills, but that doesn't necessarily mean the potentially big-play throw is the most logical one to make. Seems like Trestman needs a QB as studious as McCown but with enhanced physical attributes.

I think this has been clear since McCown took over in Washington. The pace and efficiency the offense has played with has been the best I've seen since Grossman started the season hot.
