I'm sorry that I don't get "moist" when discussing coaching hires. Or personnel moves in general. We are cheerleading a hire in the hopes that it would lead us back to mediocrity. Which is how 99% of Bears discussions on here and the score tend to be. If not this then the incessant Packer fan trolling even as we get curbstomped every year.

One of the reasons that this season was an utter disaster is because MANY pf the same guys that are now "Moist" were moist this time last year for Caleb. I'm not interested in "winning" offseasons or "press conferences". Again so "Score like" in philosophy. You win games on the field. And Rookie Unproven coaches coupled with a bad, unproven QB is usually a recipe for disaster. In any sport

i hope he and caleb form a reid-mahomes type connection and we have title hopes each year. obviously that would be amazing and it probably doesnt happen.... but day 2 of ben johnson, that is what i am hoping for. who is hoping they become mediocre with ben johnson? given the pedigree you should be hoping ben johnson 100% works out. your premise is off. you talk about mediocrity yet there are a bunch of active threads talking about the previous failed bear QB one full season removed. i was hoping for mediocrity assuming an uninspiring hire like mccarthy... but we got the best candidate. my expectations and hopes are higher now

I never knew that there was a timeframe for such things. And I tend not to "hope' for anything when it comes to sports. Either you can play or you can't. And for all of the spinning narratives regarding the genius of Ben Johnson and how he saved Goff, Goff was a damn good QB before Ben Johnson ever got with him. Caleb sucked last season..And Shane Waldron (if we are being truthful) did a helluva lot better with developing Geno Smith than Johnson did with developing Goff. And we see how that ended up.

And this is not to down the guy but just trying to look at this realistically. And the difference between Reid and Johnson is that Reid had a much better track record of doing what you "hope" that Johnson can do before he ever met Mahomes. First with Philly then with K.C. And "hottest coaching" hires rarely work in the NFL. Usually the guys that are the best as Head Coaches are the ones whom you never see coming. Obscure assistants or Head Coaches that "failed" in other places tend to fair better in my opinion than the hotshot assistant types.

Can we fast forward again to the point where you point out how good Jordan Love is because of EPA\play?

You seem to bring up Love a lot more than I do. I was just showing you why you're wrong about your rigid 95 qb rating + close game = played well equation.

Brick your 1 stat to illustrate that he "played very well" is still a stat where his number was among the worst in the league.

I mean, he completed 77% of his passes and his fumble was a fluke play where he wasn't even touched.

Overall, he didn't play very well in his first season. It was dragged down by some incredibly poor performances. I don't know why I have to keep repeating that.

Bears are better today. The Lions are worse today. These are both good.

I don't think that makes his fumble more impressive, it makes it worse. But his turnovers and sacks resulted in SF scoring only 17 points, not enough to win most games. The things qb rating ignores specifically led to him not playing well and losing the game for them. That's why it's a good illustration of why your equation is wrong.

I disagree. If you look at the play it's one of the more fluky things you'll see unless you think Purdy is somehow incapable of a small pump fake that doesn't end up with the ball flying 10 feet in front of him.

You can play well and still lose especially when it comes down to a fluke turnover like that one.

It's almost to the point that these two must be in on the gimmick. Brick and Doc probably go to the local country club and laugh over a couple of Irish Coffees.

His performance that game in terms of QBR, EPA, team PPG is equivalent to Daniel Jones season this year. We just have different definitions of playing well I guess.

I think that specific example ignores how good the Vikings were this year when they weren't playing the Lions or Rams.

I think he’s going to do well but those types of statements are best read after they fire a guy.

To a person they also agreed with you about Caleb and you see where that got us. Wake me when they don't "agree" with you.

He'll likely be Pittsburgh's starting QB next season and the Bears are on the schedule. Saddle Up Boys!

Martz called Johnson "Generational" which now gives us two. I look forward to next season's tilt with your Steelers.

The return of Aidan Hutchinson, along with the other injured defensive starters, will more than offset any presumed drop off attached to the loss of an OC.

That defense wasn’t very good before he got hurt.

And they’re likely losing Glenn as well.

Coaches for a very long time have been infatuated with the “million dollar body, ten cent head” archetype that Caleb Williams is. It’s never gone well.
