I have to say, my analysis was pretty flawless in this thread. I even was pushing for Burfict as an UDFA, who is now doing nice things in Cincinnatti.

Hey Dewskie!

The Bears are all about tradition. Therefore Emery was compelled to carry on drafting injury prone players.

Has McClellin really been absolutely awful?

I have not paid much attention to him this year.

He's been making slow progress, mostly due to only getting contextual snaps, IMHO. Here's a couple gifs from this pretty solid article that sums up Shea's progress (through last month, anyway) that show what he's capable of.

This eval from that article pretty much expresses my thoughts on him now that we've gotten a body of work to look at:

Quote:
I don't think he's going to lead the league in sacks ever (schematically, if the Bears ever lead the league in individual sacks, I do think something would be wrong), but I do think he's can develop into the effective 8-10 sack guy from the outside who can create pressure when teams want to pass.

Or the white Alex Brown, basically.

The concussion is a lame setback, but I mean...these things happen.

Here now is Irish Boy to follow up my post with more wet-blanket naysaying with several brief sentences dripping with the finest quality sneering asshattery.

Alex Brown never had more than 7 sacks in a season. I believe he averaged 4-5 a season. You and the author think Shea is twice as good as him, or is going to be, at pass rushing. Forgive me for thinking you're a tad optimistic.

The fact that so many of you are totally bankrupt of optimism is a major reason I rarely make a point to visit or post in this subforum. It's a black hole of determination to embrace the team's failure.

He was outrun by Matt Hasselbeck on one play, then stiff-armed by Matt Hasselbeck on the next. He's been regularly dominated in one on one situations, which are really the only situations he's facing. And he's getting the seventh-most snaps on the D-line.

But there are gifs of him not getting his ass handed to him by below-average tackles so he must be pretty good.

Hey Dewskie, is that too negative? Let's all have faith in Phil Emery, head scout of the Kansas City Chiefs! We are a bankrupt black hole of determined negativism!

Fire Phil Emery.

And the way you know I'm right and Dewskie is full of shit is those gifs.

1) McClellan was blocked, one on one in space, by a freaking pulling center. Stafford vacated the pocket and left the area being blocked because of other pressure.

That's bad for two reasons. First, it's bad that he can't beat a center pulling on the edge. Second, it's bad because the Lions pulled a freaking center to block him. They did not give a fucking about Shea McClellan.

2.) McClellan is deliberately left unblocked because the stretch is run to the opposite side. Penetration on the stretch side causes the play to slow. That penetration makes the play, not McClellan.

And remember, those are the Dewskie-blows-smoke-up-our-ass gifs.

Yeah, I really wanted him too. He would have been a steal for a team like the Bears that needs some young LBs.

Not what I was saying at all. I feel like I'm more scrutinous than most regarding this team, but when it comes to the Holy Trinity of Bears (dolphin, IB, and br), this team could be undefeated and winning games by 50, yet it'd all be a facade.

It's not even worth getting into it with any of you, so I'll leave you to your belligerent apathy bath.

Dewskie is way more of a Bears homer than Frank is a Sox homer. Frank admits when Sox players play like ass.

Add Chilo Rachal to the free agent bust pile with Michael Bush, Jason Campbell and Eric Weems. Understandable that Emery isn't a gifted evaluator of pro talent as he's more of a college guy.

gd and IB, curious what you guys thought about the Emery presser? Still wanting to fire him?

Judging by the reactions here that must have been one hell of a presser. Even Country Bumpkin was full of praise. Getting hopes up....

And yeah I'm pretty positive IB would still fire Emery if he could.

You laugh but you have nothing to worry about regarding the Packers. We Bears fan have been wallowing in misery for the past 6 years and mostly at the hands of your beloved Pack.

Emery said the right things and although long-winded, cleared up the reasons why he drafted who he did and what was happening in the off-season.

He also had talked about the stats he had compiled when judging the Offensive Line. Interesting stuff but a lot of minutiae.

I'm not putting all my rotten eggs in one basket, but I have hope.

He just said that he wanted to draft an o-linemen but they just didn't grade enough on his list.

He graded Shea McClellin higher than the best offensive guard prospect of the past decade.

You fuckers are cheap dates.

How has the best guard prospect in the last decade done this year? I have not paid any attention.
