But that assumes basic competency at running, because if they don't have to focus on that even when you have three TEs on the field, there's no magic answer.

Two reads is still better than a futile dive up the middle, especially after it has been proven that your team cannot run up the middle.

Then my complaint is when we run. When we get to 4 yds within the goal line, we should run one guy on a fade, another on a cross, and one of the HBs on a flat run. That should be a TD every time. Not this dive or pitch or whatever they want to do. It is a passing play with three reads, success rate around 90%.

This reminds me: the touchdown to Gonzalez was ridiculous. I like how we got faked out, when Gonzalez had nowhere to run but where he did. Oh, make sure you don't get beat down the field! Oh, wait, that's right: they're at the fucking goal line.

What play call would you have made to have Orlando Pace not jump offsides? Since that seems to be your main fear about 3rd and practically nothing.

The line will fuck up more on plays they're not comfortable with. For the Bears line, that's run plays. There's no good reason to run two run plays in a row. After the first attempt, complete with a fumble, only a drooling-idiot would run again.

I seem to recall a lot of love on this board for the o-line with the signings of Omyfuckinggod and Pace.

On the bright side: the receiving corps is much better than advertised. I love me some Johnny Knox. Dude was beating his man consistently. I disagree with those who say he's too slight to be an impact receiver. I'd like to see more throws go his way.

Well, the basic point is that he's extremely fast, and seems to have pretty good hands. That's a weapon. This kid has heart; he's out there throwing blocks and he's willing to take a hit.

I agree, and I think the fact that it's even in question shows that our receiver corps is better than expected. He's been pretty damn good, but so have the other guys, for the most part.

I didn't know anything about him but he looked like a keeper in camp. I saw him consistently abusing whoever was in front of him during the drills.

uh yeah. Look up my preseason posts for an idea of how accurate that is

Thinking about it, I think this is an example of poor adjustment on the part of the coaching staff. Piece-of-filth was obviously a major problem for the offense, but instead of benching him and putting in a guard who has proven to have a pulse in this very offense, they just stayed with him. They should have taken a chance on Beekman at least.

Whoa there, let's not get crazy! The outrage is that the Bears are lucky enough to have the option to walk away from bad contracts, but failed to do so. Say what you will about Hendry, but I have little doubt in my mind he'd nix that contract in a second. I think the finger-crossing era with Tommie Harris is over, even for the most optimistic fan/GM.

True, NFL contracts are not guaranteed. Why should the Bears continue to limp along with Harris? Why not cut him the fuck loose right now?

Someone should tell Lovie Smith that it isn't against the rules to substitute players...the players who start the game aren't required to finish the game. Why Beekman isn't on the field is a mystery.

The Bears are gonna need another RB. I would like to see them sign TJ Ducket. He is a beast who can take a beating and perhaps be the goal line back.

He may, but he completely wimped out in the first half. There was a 3rd and long where had one on one coverage and caught a slant. Instead of, you know, running, he got in that hunch like he was going to get blown up, and a second later he was tackled short of the 1st down. In that second he could have, at worst, run for the first down, and at best broke one tackle and had a clear path to the end zone. It was a rookie mistake probably, but he blew it on that play.

The Bears don't have a big WR who can get physical...a guy like Marshall or TO.

Well, yeah. He's had some bad mistakes. Like you say, rookie mistake. Without those mistakes, his performance would be very good, even for a veteran player. With those mistakes, it's a very good rookie performance.

I thought that too when I first saw it, but the pass was thrown pretty far behind him and he had to stop and reach back to the ball. He just didn't have a chance to started again.

I can't believe Omiyale hasn't been benched yet. I've never seen a starting offensive lineman completely whiff on blocks like he does. Forte really isn't very good, though.

I noticed the same thing happen 2 or 3 times last night on screen plays. It's like he is looking
to block someone 15 yards down field yet lets the guy in front of him get through to make the
tackle. Forte isn't doing a very good job shedding tackles but he shouldn't have to with his
blockers out front.

Usually after a Bears loss I am ranting and raving. After this loss however, I felt like I had been punched in the gut.

This game was a crushing defeat even though the score didn't reflect it. I hope they can shake it off before playing Cincy. Two consecutive losses could wipe out their wildcard chances.

By the way, "Matty Ice" can eat me. Playing like a 10-year veteran my ass. Puts up 44 on the niners and can't repeat it against the "lowly" Bears.

The Bears had ample opportunity to win this game and just played sloppy.

I am also sick of the Bears Sunday Night Football. No more flex schedule!

i cant believe the amount of red zone mistakes this team made. another win that slipped away because of stupid red zone mistakes. the falcons didnt look that impressive. the bears just fell flat on their faces when it mattered

id also like to call out devin hester. on that play over the middle when he had nobody within 20 yards of him i dont understand why he ran out of bounds. i thought he had game breaking speed. he just slowly ran out of bounds without even trying to avoid or even run through the db in front of him. cmon its a critical point in the game. he has to do more than just lazily run out of bounds

I heard Tony Dungy, now with NBC Sports' "Football Night in America", mention Matt Ryan's name in the same breath with Peyton Manning. Either that's high praise, or I kept seeing #2 in Falcon red closely resemble #18 in Colts' blue in the way he seemed to conduct the offense in constantly changing plays at the line of scrimmage. Besides, the Bears' defense didn't seem as prepared for the no-huddle offense as they should have.

Frank, it was an observation in watching last night's game, not just what I heard but what I noticed regarding Matt Ryan & Peyton Manning...

But it wasn't YOUR observation. Would you have posted that if a very biased Tony Dungy hadn't said that?
