If part of the reason for benching Cutler is "to avoid injury before deal is finished", then wouldn't the Bears have declared Cutler inactive for the Lions game rather than designating Cutler as the second string QB for the game.

If he is right, somehow, my whole outlook on how the rumor mill in the NFL works will be flipped upside down. Freaking Eric from Eric and Kathy for Fs sake.
