The other thing I forgot to mention is that Ballard purportedly "loves" Eberflus, and Poles and Ballard are apparently tight. If anything, it may be Ballard who picked Eberflus as the head coach. As I recall, he was also involved with the hiring of Pace as GM, wasn't he?

Polian's guy seemed to be Caldwell. But who the hell knows.

I thought it was Pace v. Ballard for the GM role and believe it or not, the Bears made the wrong choice.

I'm fine being wrong...if I am. It's just a theory. In part, based on Poles weird behavior at his presser when he declared that Eberflus was 'his brother'...a guy a dozen years older than him, who he may or may not have ever crossed paths with prior to the interview process. Color me skeptical about that kind of instantaneous connection. I think Eberflus was George's pick. We're seeing it play out with quotes like Kmet's today about how hard they're working. George loves that crap. Like I say, just a theory and my mind has a lot of free time these days.

It was Ballard vs. Phil Emery for the job. After George realized his blunder with the Emery hiring, apparently Ballard was admitted to his circle of trust.

Most Colt fans I know hate Ballard. Wentz and Ryan now at QB is not helping his case.

Yes, I think Polian preferred Caldwell, but Eberflus was one of his guys as well.

It should go without saying that the GM from another team shouldn't play a major role in the selection of executives and coaches for the Bears. But here we are.

No, it was Emery v. a bunch of schmucks as sweaty Teddy mandated Lovie stay on as HC and no serious candidate abides that nonsense.

Ballard was still just an area scout at that point.

Especially the Colts who are like the mediocre version of the Bears.

You're right. I got my timeline confused. Sifting through the Bears' wasteland of mediocrity does that to me, I guess.

Apparently both Mickey Loomis and Ballard have played a significant role in recent Bears executive/head coaching hirings.

The Colts have been considerably better than the Bears for about 30 years now.

Colts way better?

The redhead sucked but at least they have Taylor who is three levels above anyone that bears have on offense. Plus their QB situation is clearer.

Until Eberflus' defense shit the bed and lost to Jacksonville in Week 18 and the team missed the playoffs.

Look up the record of Reich and Nagy.

What exactly did the offense practice under Nagy?

Watson’s masseuses were a lot better at growing the man than the entire Bears organization.

Went against the scout team today and worked on scrambling drills. They've got the stock offense perfected already I guess.

Courtney Cronin
@CourtneyRCronin
First team offense has gone against the scout team D throughout team period today. DB AJ Thomas just came away with the first pick of the day.

My issue with the training camp takes is that everybody knows he’ll be a running QB. That cannot be replicated in an environment where you can’t be hit.

I like that Eberflus said he’s going to play these guys immediately during preseason.

Seems like respectable swings and misses. One former first round pick with an up and down history. One potential HOF'er who might still have gas left in the tank. We don't know if Ryan is a miss just yet but still.

This is exactly the kind of play the Bears should.be running for Fields. Get him to the outside, let him take advantage of his speed, pick up big gains, and get out of bounds. Nagy never did this last year, and it's a big reason the offense can be significantly more successful in 2022 than it was in 2021.

It's truly amazing, though, that Nagy had a scrambling QB but NEVER ran a scramble drill to capitalize on his greatest strength in the passing game. Unbelievable.
