And he’s through six games.

That’s not really true. Both Mitch and Cutler had stretches where they moved the ball vertically better than Caleb Williams has.

I'm still about 6 games away from deciding. I'm encouraged by most of what I see.

Pick your favorite Mitch & Cutty stretches and we’ll do a compare & contrast.

There may be some type of qualifier at work in “vertical” there, but I don’t think it matters. The idea that good QBs feast on gunning the ball down field constantly is obviously incorrect.

You have to be able to chunk plays or you start getting into trouble. Face teams with elite defenders and it’s a matter of when, not if, you will see what happened in Houston with Derek Stingley Jr. and Will Anderson Jr. getting big plays. Running the ball well is safer, but trying to just slice off little 4-12 yard pass plays over and over again is playing into exactly what defenses want.

Caleb Williams tried to get vertical once this game. It was one of the worst passes I’ve ever seen.

No one had a worst offense than (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky had his rookie year, and we didn’t care. At some point producing and winning matters. Not one receiver on the Bears in 2017 was in the NFL in 2018, IIRC.

Drake Maye just dropped an absolute dime of a forty yard bomb right into the breadbasket of Kayshon Boutte. I have not seen Williams make a play on that level once in six games. Daniels does it routinely, Maye is already doing it, I don’t know about Bo Nix I haven’t seen much of him.

The Bears struggled to score 21 points in any game during Fields/Mitch years. When Caleb has time he is able to convert the turnovers into TD's. He reads the defense well and processes the game in real time light years better then Fields or Mitch.

4 tds's today and almost 5. One bad pass for an INT. I will take that every week.

The Bears scored 48, 28, 31, 24, 41 and 34 points in consecutive games in 2018. Against some good teams in there too.

No great QB makes a living off of deep balls.

The INT was terrible but there were also plenty of good throws that weren’t slants & screens. Even then, I think you forget how long it’s been since the Bears had a QB who could throw a competent slant.

Bears had a 5 game Stretch during Fields 2nd season where they averaged nearly 30 per game with some of the worst offensive "weapons" in the history of the NFL

I don't think the interception was terrible in the way you all do. It felt like he was looking at Moore and waiting for him to make his break for about 2 seconds. It was more of a timing issue to me.

I am saying you have to at least have the ability to be a deep threat or you’ll get eaten alive. Everyone wants to talk about Brady, I don’t know if anyone ever has been such a master of dropping in perfect sideline throws thirty yards downfield as much as Tom Brady.

It’s not like Williams doesn’t throw downfield. He’s hit a bunch of them; the Kmet throw today is a good example.

He’s just sucked ass on the 50 yard go routes. Only successful one I can remember so far is the Odunze catch in Indy.

Nah it was a lollipop throw which allowed the CB to run under it. You can't hang a ball in the air the way that he hung that pass in the air and not expect for it to be picked off.

He had Moore wide open if he led him into the end zone. His feet were set, he had no pressure and he limp dicked it out there.

I get that but over 90% of his deep throws have been air mail throws such as that. Which is my point. Possessing "arm takent" (whatever the hell that means) doesn’t mean that you possess tremendous "arm strength". Until I actually see it, I don't think this kid has a cannon for an arm. And if he struggles to make "All The Throws" then that is a problem.

That was a simple 35- 40 yard pass and he couldn't get it there on a line. Which says something about the legitimacy of his "Arm Talent" and definitely his Arm strength.

I can't believe a rookie in his sixth game threw a bad pass in a game he also passed for four touchdowns. That one pass means he isn't that good.

Today I will rejoice in the fact that our "Generational Talent" has the potential to play well against really shitty teams

Then you’re not watching. He’s missed more often overthrowing guys than he has under throwing. Saying he doesn’t have arm strength just tells me you’re not watching the games and you’ve never really watched him play.

It’s an accuracy issue.

The mere fact that each of his deep throws are air mails is a perfect illustration of his arm not being particularly strong. Arm strength not only pertains to distance on your throws. It also.(and mostly in fact) pertains to velocity as well. If you have to airmail your deep pass just to have a deep pass, then your arm isn't particularly strong. Which Williams's is not.

Thanks for the physics lesson.

Fields has already gone up against 4 of the top 10 passing defenses in the league.

Caleb has already gone up against 4 of 10 worst passing defenses in the league

The fact that every deep throw is essentially a lob is definitely evidence of a "strong arm". Just to reiterate. He plays golf

This is his perfect strike to DJ Moore for a touchdown.

Hardly a laser if it's the pass against the Panthers you're talking about. I'm not a Facebook guy

It was a good accurate pass however.

And Fields has far better passes than that this season alone

Pittsburgh Defense has been leeting them down the previous 2 weeks. First drive touchdown today

You don't have to be logged in to see it. Just hit the X to close the login link.

It wasn't a lob which you seem to think is the only way he throws deep.
