I think the comparison is a lot closer than you guys are arguing.

Intangibles (such as leadership/willing to lead) matter for a QB. And Jay didn’t have that, Mitch seems to have that quality about him.

I think you’re dead wrong. Mitch may not go one to be extremely successful in the NFL -who knows- but he will not fail for the same reasons Cutler did, they aren’t anything alike imo.

Cutler compares far more accurately with a guy like Jeff George. Mitch isn’t anything like either of those guys in terms of playing style nor attitude.

You're right Jay Cutler does compare to Jeff George, but I do not think (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky compares to anyone that great either. Also, whenever I read the work "intangibles" I translate it as "player x is better than player y, but I don't really know why." If we're saying Mitch is better due to some sort of ephemeral quality, I'm sorry, but that's not enough for me.

I literally gave an example of an intangible I feel Mitch has over Jay after using the word, it’s in the same sentence. Also putting ‘work’ in the place of ‘word’ in a post you’re trying to come off as intelligent in doesn’t do a whole lot of favors for you trying to come off intelligent or condescending or.. whatever your gimmick is here. Might want to add proof reading to your repertoire if you’re going to go this route. Just a thought.

Point taken on the proof reading, or lack thereof. Now, if I can shift gears to the portions of your post that aren't harping on proof reading, I'm sorry but "leadership" is about as open-ended and undefinable as "intangibles." How do we know Mitch has good leadership skills? Because his teammates say nice things about him in the media? Cutler's teammates by and large (I know there were some exceptions) said nice things about him in the media too. Maybe I'm simple minded, but if I'm going to agree that Mitch has better leadership skills than Jay, I'm going to have to hear some concrete examples. Like, "I've seen Mitch do x, y, and z and I never saw Cutler doing those things."

I maybe came down on you a bit too hard on the "intangibles" issue. It's a cliche that we all use. I just think Mitch and Jay are about the same level of quarterback right now, and if someone thinks Mitch is actually head and shoulders better than Jay, they're going to have to cite to something that actually happens on the field.

@Warren..

Jay and Mitch being the ‘same level of QB’ is more an indictment on Jay than Mitch. Mitch is only in his 2nd year of being a professional -he’s supposed to be developing. Till Jays final snap in the NFL he was a ‘project’. Your statement puts the body of an entire 12 year career and it’s potential up against what a young inexperienced QB has done and is in the middle of doing in less than 2 seasons so far. In short, I don’t think it says much (and I don’t agree with the statement).

As for the intangible aspect, you agreeing or disagreeing with him having it is irrelevant to me giving it as an example of an intangible aspect to his game. You responded to me pointing out ‘intangibles’ by taking it to mean I didn’t know why I was saying so. I’m simply pointing out that this is a false assertion being that I gave an example of something I feel Mitch has as an intangible that Jay does not.

I’d also point out that Mitch doesn’t fold after making a mistake or two during a game like Jay seemed to. There was almost always an escalation or a compounding of mistakes in games for Jay that doesn’t appear evident in Mitch’s game. In layman’s terms -things would snowball on Jay real quick. Mitch is just as likely to come out on a drive after throwing a pick and throw a TD as he is to make another mistake. I think that shows he is capable of putting things behind him and rising to an occasion. Even in his worst game recently against the Rams he found ways to make a big throw or run when needed. Jay did not do those things. If Jay was bad, he was all the way bad in games.

Regards on the proof reading, good on ya. Cheers
