I completely get why he is mad and sounds bitter.

He's a member of the media that tried to embarrass the team by sharing a story that was missing a lot of important details. George challenged the accuracy. Olin didn't need to whine and bring up his 6 kids and threaten George before walking it back. He embarrassed himself.

It's a problem because his credibility matters for his current and future prospects. If he wants to get deeper into media stuff or get into a front office then I'm sure this thing will annoy him.

He’s going to be a hall of famer. In the last few years, he’s gone from a very good interior lineman to an all time great. Rosenbloom argued he was a top 5 bear over the last 40 years when discussing this story.

Olin won’t lose a dime here.

I also agree Olin should have kept the story off the air.

It would have been in his self-interest not to mention it.

But I'm glad he did.

This stuff is hilarious!

If the Bears can't entertain me on the field, at least former Bears are entertaining me on the Score airwaves.

George spent an hour ducking and dodging questions about his own ability, but the first time he had a chance to light up a former player, he took it.

He could have very easily said something to the effect of, "There are a lot of stories and rumors out there. I don't know exactly what went on between Olin and Harry. Olin was a superb play for us for a number of years, and an integral part of our offensive line in a year which we played in the Super Bowl. I respect him as a former Bear, and he has a right to say whatever he wants to say. Next question please," and this becomes a non story real quick.

But it wouldn’t have been entertaining.

Olin says he called Pace today to confirm. Is it possible George was irritated with Pace over the story? (Among other things of course.)

Absolutely. North in his prime would have killed today.

George said he was only telling half of the story. Probably gave Olin a company car and hookers.

What did you expect him to say? Did you hear what Olin just said during his rant? The Bears wasn't trying to insult him, it was literally the standard offer for the job that Olin was being asked to do. With the understanding that a better paying job would come soon after that.

I never hear Ron Riviera complain about working for free for a year and basically sleeping at the Bears training facility.

Actually, Rivera was bitter that he wasn't offered a paying job on the coaching staff and used that fact to criticize Wanny on a couple of occasions.

This is different though. If you're trying to break into a profession or whatever then yeah some grunt work/paying of dues is expected. The Bears/Harry wanted Olin for his expertise. It's a consulting thing. You have to pay for expertise.

He said that Olin called him the next day and told him the story. And quality control has always been known as a grunt job with little to no pay. And Rivera asked them for a job. Totally different situation.

I haven't heard the complaints. I also thought he got paid like $50k the following year. He at least got Usher Nas to call him Dan Hampton while running the stands before a game. That had to be worth a lot.

Then make a counter offer if it is something that you wanted to do. "Harry, I know this is your standard offer, however, I won't get out of bed for less than $50k." He's not making more than that as a low level assistant. Harry was probably barely making 6 figures.

I'd lowball Olin too. It's an easy way to not hire someone that you don't want to have around. It appears that no one else in the NFL thought Olin was worth more than $15 hr since he's sitting at home. He wanted a handout and the Bears passed.

The professional way is to tell Harry that his request to bring Olin on board as a consultant is denied, tough luck. That way no offer is made and the insult is avoided. If the lowball offer was intended to tell Olin to go away indirectly then it just highlights how conflict-averse this group is. Just man up and tell him you don't need him but thank you very much anyway. Someone highlighted the conflict-averse/nice guy thing in the presser and he was spot on - they just want nice guys who fit in with them, someone who's not gonna rock the boat. At some point McCaskey portrayed "outsized egos" in a bad light. I guess that means no to Harbaugh. Belichik has a huge ego and probably yells at people - does that mean the Bears are not going to hire him if he expressed interest in the role? Just really poor management.

Olin has been out of the league for how long ? Its amazing some accomplished football team hasnt snapped up the fertile mind of Olin Kreutz by now and benefitted from his heretofore untapped genius.

Not true.

He's been the head varsity coach at St Mary's in Lake Forest but has yet to win so much as a conference championship on the North Shore yet.
