I believe they essentially did that. I could be wrong but I don't think this absence is family related. I think his play calling duties were taken away.

Defense gave up less points last week, but I wouldnt say it looked much better under Flus.

The effort was there. They were also shorthanded in the secondary.

Williams shouldn't be scapegoated for the team's lack of effort in Green Bay.

The offense was as bad or worse than the defense in its halfassery and was still highly disorganized against Tampa.

Why hasn't Getsy been canned?

What are you guys basing the fact that he has been fired? I am not seeing anything. Surely there is more going on than just one bad game. No coach is fired off of one week.

Mully and Haugh this morning were hinting that Williams and Eberflus had a falling out so to speak.

Da Bears Blog hinted last week that George flipped out about the way the team looked against the Packers.

Williams may be a sacrificial lamb.

I would think that is more the head coaches fault for the Country Club atmosphere in training camp. This team sucks enough as it is, they really need to fill the roll of defensive coordinator in the meantime

Exactly. The team was halfassing it on defense AND offense.

That's an Eberflus and Poles problem, not a Williams problem.

That said, we shouldn't overlook the fact that Williams was horrendous in his only other stint as a defensive coordinator for the Vikings.

Nate Davis missed time in camp because he mother was dying. He missed the game on Sunday because his mother died. Coaches don't miss time for anything. They plan everything around coaching. I suspect Williams objected to getting his play calling duties taken away. His time off on Sunday was based on that. Anything additional is likely a "graceful" exit strategy.

The defense is not great but not the root problem of this mess. 30 points given up against GB is probably ten more than you'd like but GB did take advantage of short felds a few times due to ineptitude on offense. 20 given up against TB on the road is not bad. If you want to shake things up in a way that will actually remove problems from the field then you demote Fields, demote the guys who suck on the o line (and replace them with guys who equally suck), and fire Getsy and/or offensive position coaches due to the mass unpreparedness on offense.

I generally agree, but it's still notable that the Eberflus Bears are the first team in NFL history to lose 12 consecutive games while giving up 25 or more points in each of those contests.

I think that's what Dan Bernstein would call an ignominious distinction.

They had 3rd and 4th stringers in the secondary, they were on the field for about 80 minutes in the heat, they gave up 20 points (pick 6 not on them), and they actually did get some pressure on Mayfield though couldn't bring him down. Just when I figured they would roll over, somebody would make a stop and force a punt or a FG.

They did give up a ton of yards and could not get off the field on 3rd down. That is definitely a problem.

However, I don't think you can pin that loss on the D. Tampa kept shooting themselves in the foot and the Bears offense was able to do nothing to take advantage.

If after week one, one of your two coordinators needs to be on a leave of absence because of the fractured relationship with the HC, this is entirely a HC problem.

Either:

(a) the HC fucked up in picking a coordinator that was recalcitrant; or
(b) the HC is someone who can't correctly manage his subordinates.

There's definitely a White Sox vibe growing with this organization. Weak leadership on and off the field. Some good talent on paper that doesn't show up on game days. Refusal to address issues that have plagued the team for years.
Oh yeah, and lots of losing.

Eberflus "wouldn't say" if Williams is still the defensive coordinator?

I guess he ain't the defensive coordinator.

Yep, 1000%. Unfortunately with the weird Williams stuff it looks like Eberflus is trending toward a Trestman type - technically savvy maybe but incompetent as an executive/leader.

I told you all in January of 2022 this hire sucked! Listen to me people!

Caller Bob wrote:
This was the worst hire of the 3. The most important thing is to save Justin Fields. Quinn had connections to good coordinators and Caldwell, even though old and "meh" knows how to develop quarterbacks. Fields will be officially ruined now. Fucking Bears.

Eberflus' defense was getting blown up in 2021 before Irsay and Ballard forced him to change it. Even then, the league adjusted to Eberflus' new blitzing schemes and the Colts' defense collapsed in the last few weeks of the season. He is not technically savvy. He is a career position coach who has been overpromoted to head coach.

That's how the Bears hire all their coaches. Until the old bag dies and they sell the team

So what's the speculation on twitter and the other shit? What's really going on with him? Bernstein hinted that the truth is on social media.

Bernstein wants to send some helicopters and reporters after him to find what's up. Probably also some government doctors to forcibly vaccinate him.
