At the beginning of the year I thought they'd go to the Superbowl but was never sure they belonged there. I haven't looked at a Bears team in a long time and said wow they are solid. That's what I want and that's really the crux of it.

I'm not excusing the poor performance in the SB, obviously it's what matters most. I just think the perception has become that the offense was god awful in 06 and the defense somehow willed us to the SB. Is it possible that game changes dramatically if Manning doesn't blow his coverage?

Again, those first five games, the offense was awesome. Grossman and Berrian won them the Saints game with that spectacular catch, 3rd quarter I believe? The Seattle game was again in part because of Grossman. Thomas Jones had solid seasons. And what do you remember most from the 05 and 06 season? The miserable failures of the secondary when covering Steve Smith and Reggie Wayne. So yeah, Id agree that the offense definitely played a big part. That being said, the defense was still a thing when Harris was on his game.

"Rex is our quarterback." And despite how shitty he might be playing, in the most important game of the year, we're not going to have Brian Griese even warming up.

See FF, this is the level of meatballery you are dealing with.

you cant be the colts or pats simply because you dont have one of the best qb's of all time. Even this year right now you have the 3rd best qb in the division. Most important position in sports. Not to mention those two teams have had the best front offices of the decade, with baltimore in the conversation too. There's a middle ground between mediocrity and greatness. The bears are it lately

Neither was I. I'm just looking back upon it now as an adult and wondering just how in the hell all that talent was wasted. I could of swore that as a little kid back then I heard rumors that Bears could of traded Neal Anderson for Marino and didn't. Now it sounds like a pipe dream and trade the Dolphins would be crazy to have even considered, but I know I heard it.

That quote has taken on a life of its own and now has to be the equivalent of "All the pieces are in place." What killed in that game was when Berrian was open in the fourth quarter and Grossman put waaay too much air under the ball. That was six right there and then who knows. Not to go Wanny on everybody. As for Griese, I just never bought into him. I think history has proven he hurts more than he helps. Oh and he can't hold his liquor to well.

It shouldn't, but sadly it does affect the way some would think. Ditka is treated like a God, yet he was a mediocre coach at best. Hell even Jauron was getting credit because his team was thought of as still playing hard even when they were out of it. Think about it, what coach did less with more over a five year stretch than Ditka? Bobby Cox maybe, or Marv Levy? At least Levy got to another SB. If I said to you of the two teams playing in SB XX who would get back to SB first, the Bears or the Pats? This town doesn't like to give credit to coaches other than Ditka. Phil Jackson had six rings and he's not beloved.

I hate to admit it, but we are a meatball town. Though in fairness Lovie gets no respect nationally either.

All towns are meatball towns.

Lovie is 16 & 16 the last two seasons missing the playofs in both. Like both Dick Jauron & Dave Wanstedt, Lovie has had 1 good year. As for Jerry Angelo, he is the worst drafting GM in the NFL. Harris, Williams, Dvorcek, Benson...yuk...
When will the Bears hire experienced, successful profesionals to coach & GM the team? Either Cowher, Gruden, or Shanahan would certainly give the Bears more ROI on the $5 Million that Lovie makes.

Hey RFDC, Do you actually have any thoughts or comments other than using the term "Meatball"? Can you put a thought together that is longer than a few words?

The Bears lost the 2006 Super Bowl because despite a brutal rainstorm, Lovie & Ron abandoned the running game & threw the ball way too much.

The Bears are 19 - 19 the last two seasons including this season YTD. Thats not what I would call a winning record.
As for Jerrys drafts, review his picks & get back to me.

The Bears haven't had a competitive team in 2-1/2 years! Where do you get this idea that the Bears are a competitive team? Perhaps you consider .500 a competitive team.
