Lots of things to be taken from this game. In my mind the work of the offensive line and Mccowns excellent decision making reigns supreme.

Can we please stop the talk of franchising Cutler now? If he won't sign for 3-20 to 25 I say fuck him.

In the games Mccown has played how many "risky" throws? There was the TD pass to Marshall on Monday night and that was more of a 50/50. Cutler seems to find the traffic jam at least 3-4 times a game and still throws it in there. Reckless can get you killed.

Probably won the Bears the game. Baltimore would have had time to run on 3rd down otherwise.

They were running it down their throats. I'd rather have them passing at that point.

It worked out for them, but I still think it was stupid not to use any timeouts there.

Maybe. I was kind of 50/50 on it.

At best you'd have :35 or so. Odds are as good to get a sack on 3rd.

Keep Mcown, draft a lab project for the mad scientist and use the money for the defense.

That's what I'm sayin... that's a shit ton of money for an ouchy qb.

That's a shit ton of money for an unouchy QB when a three years removed high school football coach can efficiently run an offense for pennies on the dollar.

Yep, absolutely right.

Ironically, I think getting more weapons for Cutler (which was always one of the excuses given for his mediocre play) has made him more expendable. The receivers are helping McCown and the offense look pretty good. Cutler's single talent advantage (strong arm) would be needed more if the Bears didn't have great, tall receivers.

When healthy and in this offense, Cutler is MAYBE a 10% improvement over McCown. The massive money he will demand would be better allocated to the defense. Let him walk.

I was fairly annoyed last week when kept hearing from radio guys about "throws only Jay Cutler could have made." Like McCown never played qb before, his arm is good enough. I'll admit there are throws only Jay can make, but they're bad usually.

Not that I disagree here, but I don't think using the Cutler needs weapons thing as a way to marginalize his worth is fair. Regardless of your QB, you're always going to need to surround him with talent. It is fair to say Cutler had sucky weapons for the majority of his time here, but acknowledging that dearth of talent around him shouldn't absolve him from his many faults.

You're not articulating it here, but I think it's always a bad argument when one says the Bears have given Cutler all he wants: good receivers, a good TE, a good OC coach, etc...as if the Bears should have refrained from beefing up the offense if Cutler didn't demand it.

Given what we've seen since Cutler went down, it's about asset allocation. MCown has proven, with the offensive weapons they've got, a game manager can run this offense efficiently enough to win. Any funds now must be spent to shore up the defense. My hope is that Emery will not tie up so much cap space in one position when the head coach has proven he can win with lesser QB talent. Let Trestman pick his project and get some defensive talent with the cap money.

Of course, with the caveat being if we get cutler for 3 for 20-25.

I'm just about sold on this line of thinking. I wouldn't have said that during the preseason, but McCown has shown that you can accomplish quite a lot by making smart throws within the confines of the offense. The only blind spot I can think of so far is not being able to see McCown in action against elite defenses.

Not likely, the NFL is full of stupid. How much money did Flynn get based on one good game? Cutler will get paid big money. I hope it's not the Bear paying him the big money.

If you're going to put him on a level playing field as McCown and rate him in the Trestman offense, yes, he was good against Cincy and NO.
