sign a kicker to the richest deal in history, then don't use him on a 47 yarder to start the game

Trestman sucks. I've seen enough.

Pretty sure it would have been a 52 yarder. I wasn't sure of the wind conditions at the time. I noticed kickoffs were short of the endzone in that direction. So I'm guessing Gould couldn't hit from that far in warm ups.

You go for it or kick it right there. Punting was the worst option of the three. This is something the eye-test/intuition guys and the metric guys can both agree.

Agreed. It's idiotic to punt from anywhere inside the 40. Go for it, ya pussy.

Like many Trestman decisions it makes no sense and cant be intelligently defended.

Next season he will be better though. He will magically learn how to situationally coach. I mean Lovie got much better as he went along right?

Except that the Bears downed the punt inside the one yard line, and the refs blew the call.

Yeah. Who knows what happens if they get that right though? Maybe the quick 13yd slant to Nelson and it's all for naught anyway.

 For sure. Best the Bears could have hoped for was holding in the end zone.

It would have been 52. I always add 17 yards whenever I see the Bears approaching Field goal range. I remember saying to myself "It's 52 from here" when it was 3rd down. So they must have been on the 35.

It doesn't even matter. It was a bad call even if the ball was downed at the 1.

the 40 yard line is 57, and it was definitely inside that.

yep. He was using a field position game plan with a team that has neither the defense nor special teams to execute it.
