I've found myself becoming more and more concerned about the employees of the two 7-11's on either side of the Kennedy now that the Des Plaines Oasis bridge has been closed. I worry that any friendships and comradery developed over time will suffer. I always imagined that the would meet in the middle of the overpass to help each other out with nickels or Super Big Gulp lids until the truck came. Now I fear they will grow divergent of one another, like the Inuit people who crossed a land bridge into what is now Alaska, only to lose all access to their homes, there past, there very selves, in a great thaw. I wouldn't be surprised if, in the future, one of these 7-11 crews develops an entirely different slang for tweaking customers or fat guys buying Muscle Milk. I'm thinking of writing a play about it.
