At the same time, he IS playing well. But he's STILL making 1 or 2 inexplicably bad throws/decisions every game and eventually one or more of those is going to matter.

If he can eliminate the JAY PLAYS he can be a top 10 QB for sure, maybe even top 5 this year

I'm starting to feel like Peyton Manning and Joe Montana wouldn't have been HoF players if they didn't have HoF receivers and other offensive players.

Every quarterback makes bad throws every game. Let's not try to diminish what he's done because Hypothetical Jay Cutler was worse.

Except those guys were always good regardless of who their receivers were.

Its not Hypothetical Cutler. It's actual Cutler making terrible throws.

And no, every QB doesnt make them every game. Im not talking about overthrowing a receiver or missing on a crossing route. Im talking about hitting opposing players in the chest or taking dumb chances when he should throw it away.

To be completely honest, it is hard to take you seriously when you are in this mode.

So basically Jay has made one mistake all year?

You're not very objective when it comes to Cutler so should I take you seriously?

I consider an interception to be a mistake. Only 1 of his interceptions I'm confident was his fault.

You are making a case that Cutler has made ONE mistake this year. Don't throw stones.

They always had HoF offensive players around them. Guys like Favre and Cutler haven't.

So, we're giving Cutler credit for something that he is paid very well to do?

Ok.

He has played average. I'll give him credit for the lack of INTs even though he was incredibly lucky on a couple.

He will need to make more plays from the onset to win upcoming games.

I think we should all agree that the numbers are the numbers

Almost INT's dont count
Actual INT's do

Even if its tipped, those things are evened out by Marshall and Jeffrey catching balls that no one else would.

The most interesting thing is just how much lower Cutler's Yards Per Attempt number is. I doubt that is a trend that will stick for the whole season either but he is currently 26th in the league.

That's why his QBR is so low despite his very good Td/Int ratio.

"If" that SF lineman falls on the ball that got snapped off Jay's legs instead of trying to pick it up the Bears are 0-3. It didn't happen, oh well.

I know thats the new-ish QB stat people love, but I wonder if its skewed now that teams are using quick slants and 2 yard passes in lieu of running the ball?

No. IMO, it's perhaps the most important stat a QB has.

As a Cub fan I'm always looking for an angle to get a better draft pick.

They all do it though so it evens out.

Matt Ryan right now is the MVP, but it will be interesting to see how he does this week in Minny.

Has there been any throw that Cutler has made this year that was only a throw Jay could make? Id argue they'd probably be 3-0 with McCown at qb because all Cutler has done this year is play the same style that McCown did last year, just not as well as McCown did .

There's been a couple perfectly thrown balls that McCown wouldnt have made, imo

Including the late one across the middle that got picked off and essentially lost the Buffalo game?

Nas is so right it's scary. I simply can't agree with him enough this season.

He sure is, but I am afraid he is going to need a bigger bandwagon. This one is getting pretty full.

Agree. Sadly, i think most of those were dropped.

Cutler haters will always find a reason to rip the guy and not give him credit for anything. If he doesn't throw an interception then his yards per attempt is too low. Now his receivers are great, so it isn't Jay. They must be reading defenses, making decisions and throwing the ball for Jay. He's got all day to throw because the offensive line is great, so it isn't Jay. His coach finally has an offensive system that could succeed in the NFL so it's not Jay. If not those excuses, there's always the imaginary INTs he threw.

It's funny that in the past the Cutler defenders kept saying that the offensive line was extremely poor, the offensive system ignored personnel flaws and was basically set up to fail, and the Bears refused to get receivers that fit Jay's style.
Again, the argument wasn't that you need to surround him with the 90's Cowboys offensive line, Jerry Rice and Randy Moss at receiver and bring in Bill Walsh at offensive coordinator... just surround him with NFL caliber players and coaches and maintain some consistency.
Now that those obvious offensive flaws have been addressed, Jay has clearly improved. But will he ever get credit? No way.
