Yes, all that is factored in. You should still go for it pretty much every time. It will increase your chances of winning the game.

Science, in other words.

So it's settled then, Rex Ryan will be the next coach of the Chicago Bears after he gets fired from the Jets.

Finally, something good to look forward to. How else are you going to stop the bleeding on defense?

Rex Ryan will most likely spend the rest of his career as a DC.

if lovie can get another HC job, ryan can too. but he doesn't know how to handle adversity well at all.

Then he should come to Chicago, where he will face no accountability whatsoever by dint of being a boisterous fat white guy with connections to 1985. What if Coach was one of us?

I think he can handle adversity. He just can't handle bad talent, which the Jets are very good at producing. This guy was knocking on the door of a SB if I remember correctly with Mark Sanchez as his QB. He'd also pass the meatball test for fans interested in that kind of personality. Sign me up if he's available.

Unfortunately, the weird McClaskeys aren't interested in that kind of personality. They want everyone to be like Dick Jauron.

The 2009-2010 Jets teams were built by Eric Mangini and all of the best players on those teams were already good before Rex started coaching them. Outside of the defensive line, he hasn't developed a single player in his entire tenure in New York (that's not an exagerration--look it up). His teams are undisciplined, he's clueless on offense, and his time management makes Trestman look like Belichick. Great DC, great guy, bad coach.

What's bad about Rex having success develop the defensive line? That would be a good start to fix the defense.

Nothing, as long as he's your defensive coordinator.

For all the wishing in this thread Ryan or someone as a DC is about all you should expect to change next year.

Maybe throw in a new ST coach.

he also has thrown in the towel at the end of games in his tenure and just looks disinterested sometimes when he's in over his head.

I'll settle for defensive coordinator, although I still want him as head coach. It would be a shrewd hire. Then what do you do with Tressman?

The thing is I don't think Rex would be on the market long. Someone will snap him up. The Bears would have to move quickly, something they've never done on coaches as far as I can recall. But Phil needs to do something to save his ass. His plan isn't working.

Rex as a head coach makes no sense for the Bears. The team would look pretty much like it did under Lovie, except with fewer takeaways and more penalties.
