Funny,Lovie's buddy,Mike Babich just got the ax the day before. I was stunned to find out he was the DC of Jacksonville who had the 2nd worst defense in the league. I can't believe after the crap job he did as Bears DC after the SB loss and firing of Ron Riviera, that he found more work.

Lovie broke his code of overlooking anything from his players but violence against a woman. I assume that person ultimately cost him his job. I thought he was doing well in Tampa but as an owner, I'd be reluctant to put my young, franchise QB under Lovie's control.

Lovie will get interviews immediately.

Dumb move by Tampa but they aren't exactly a model franchise so it isn't surprising.

The Glazer's also own Manchester United. There have been calls for ManYoo to can their boss because he's an idiot, and they aren't good.

Lovie may just be the one they chose because his contract was cheaper.

It really is a silly move.

So, how long before Scorehead-- who has the infinite ability to know what everybody should have done and should have said after the fact-- chimes in to let us all know that he knew that "Coach Milkdud" would never be successful in Tampa, and that they should have went after his guy Harbaugh? And/or that now they should go after his other guy Chip Kelly?

I'm indifferent on Lovie but to fire a guy after his 2nd year during a rebuild, when the team showed improvement, is some serious bullshit. Fuck that franchise.

With a rookie quarterback after the previous guy was a complete disaster.

Lovie was turning that franchise around.

It's $16M now. I really wonder what the OC told the owner. I believe that I read the offense and defense were top 10 in the league. Losing your last 6 games doesn’t help either. This is the best opening in the league. The should be a playoff team without much effort.

I'll second that take.

One of those things where Deadspin or Bleacher Report will have "the real story" sometime in June.

Sure sounds like the owner picked Winston over Lovie, and wants the OC to stay on so is willing to make him the HC. Except they can't just say that right away, because they have to do their sham Rooney Rule interview.

So Lovie's getting fired in essence for his first season, because if the Bucs go 4-12 that year he doesn't get Winston and there's not reason for the OC to have to stay. But that team was a dumpster fire when Lovie got there, so essentially the owner is admitting that Lovie got played.

They gave him $20M so he should be fine.

Dirk Koetter of all people being a can't lose commodity is stunning, especially since I doubt he was even high on the list for any other team that could interview him. I also don't understand the reasoning that they wanted to keep Winston in the same system. While I understand that concern with most young quarterbacks, Winston is not most young QBs. He played in a pro style system in college and I think his performance flattered Koetter more than vice versa this year.

Borrowing from counter-opinions I've seen, Lovie was brought in to make the Bucs a winner right away. I think they're roster wasn't terrible when he got there. Then Lovie did what Lovie does, and he brought in clowns like McCown (MCGOWAN!), Michael Johnson, and Anthony Collins, which cost them millions, and I think in each case were launched after one season. All the meanwhile this was done with Tampa apparently having nearly their easiest schedule in team history (e.g., only 3 opponents had winning records). Plus they had two terrible games against the Titans and Redskins, each sporting quarterbacks of no particular repute. So, he was brought there to win, but he instead was rebuilding the team in his image to win later than management was comfortable with.

As both Nas and Lovie's bank accounts indicate, he'll be fine.

He won 8 games in 2 seasons, Schiano won 7 games in 2 seasons. Neither got a "fair shake" but neither are great coaches. It sounds like the O.C. was going to get interviews for a H.C. job and they didn't want to lose him.

I'd actually like to see Dirk Koetter & the great Adam Gase get jobs & fail as miserably as I think they both will. Gase's offense was great when the coach was actually Peyton Manning & Koetter's recent highlight(singular) of a year of running a "great" offense that was in the bottom third(?) in scoring is probably predictive of their "qualifications" and likely failure as head coaches.

I imagine that it has to be tough initially to coach a team after screwing the former coach who gave you the opportunity.

I always liked Lovie. Players seemed to play hard for him. The Bucs limped at the end, which probably killed him in Tampa. He deserved more time, but NFL coaches are in a win now business.

Levontae David is pissed. He has been a personal favorite of mine since Nebraska but I bet he sees dollars flying out of the window having to move from a LB dominated system like Lovie's.

Funny thing is that I've heard it reported that it was the QB coach, not the great OC that Jameis was really tight with. Either way, if I'm a team owner, I can't imagine relying on the vision of a one year wonder OC and a rookie QB with a myriad of maturity issues (& a possible rapist to boot).

I'm aware he was a pretty bad coach @ Rutgers and was a Bears asst. I would never hire him, I'd never hire Smith either.

That team is LOADED on both sides of the ball, Like the Niners before Harbaugh. This team should have won 10 games this year with that schedule.
