K/BB ratio seems a fairly basic stat that tells a lot.

Can you further explain what you mean about stats based on errors and their non-sensical meaning?

It's literally "strikeouts per walk" but even a basic understanding of the game includes knowing that walking more batters doesn't mean more strikeouts, and a low strikeouts per walk figure doesn't necessarily mean that there are an inordinate number of walks allowed, nor does it indicate an ineffective pitcher overall.

As for errors, the sabermetric movement identified the stat and analysis relying on it to be near meaningless because the stat itself is a judgement call about defensive play made by, in most cases, a local sportswriter acting as the official scorekeeper. It robs a play of context.

Similarly, "pressure" or "hurry" stats are largely judgement calls made by non-standardized scorecard keepers that rob the play on the field of any context. So a "pressure" of a QB with a good offensive line might actually be a tackle gets beat at the top of the QBs drop and he has to step up a bit to go through progressions, and that is counted the same as both guards protecting Caleb Williams getting dusted at the snap and his left tackle getting his doors blown off. But which of the two situations is more likely to be converted into a sack?

Your first thought is insane, your second thought makes total sense. That doesn't happen much here.

I guess I should explain that nobody with a basic understanding of the game and the stat thinks that walking more batters means more strikeouts, and a low strikeouts per walk figure means that there are an inordinate number of walks allowed.

It's a power/stuff vs control stat. It doesn't pretend not to be. You got your Skubals and then you got your Kopechs. If you're sitting down to pick a closer, it's something you have to look at.

All I know is that most of this entire slog through how bad or not Williams is might not be necessary if Poles had done what a smart GM should do to build an offensive line that can produce a running game, make play action work, and give a quarterback an average chance of completing a pass on his route tree of NFL caliber passes. Makes you also wonder about the worth of both (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and Fields.

Hey Hartgrove..I'm just providing statistical analysis which a "football genius" such as yourself can relate too!

Jayden Daniels has had a much better rookie season than Caleb Williams. And feel free to demonstrate what those "similarities" happen to be whenever you get the chance also

He actually didn't have a "much better season" than Fields but first "we" have to address the "similarities" between Daniels and Caleb. Other than overall yardage, what were they?

You've already admitted that Jayden can't be compared to Caleb because the former is almost a full year older than the latter. But to that end I think it's promising that a younger prospect in Caleb Williams, behind a much worse offensive line, has been able to post similar yardage numbers to Jayden Daniels, and thrown for significantly fewer picks and a few less TDs. Both rookies have been good at avoiding turnovers, which rookies tend to struggle with, but Caleb has been a good bit better.

Now let's hear why you think Caleb's rookie season hasn't been "much better" than Justin's?

Your argument lacks "coherence" Hartgrove to say the least.

My argument does not.

There was a demonstrated ability to propel the ball in a forward manner by training camp.

I’m being generous with week 1.

The bad version of Caleb Williams is the best we've had in a Bears uniform in a long time. Really looking forward to his improvement next year.

They very often get worse and Caleb has every single ingredient and trait to get significantly worse in the interceptions department. You want to disagree? OK sure, let me know again how this bum reminds you of Peyton Manning l m f a o

Of course there are contingencies. The draft hasn't even happened.

This is just more deflecting McCarver. You view bum ass Caleb as a starter. Which means Justin Fields is a starter too.

That makes no sense The Doctor Of Silly Arguments.

I said I could see him signing for a bad team a long time ago.

You argued with that too.

So not "Just A Backup". Got it.

Currently just a backup. Potential future backup.

Schrödinger's backup.

In 2035 Antioch can unequivocally state that Justin Fields will definitely "Just Be, A Backup"
