It’s insane that they let him do that press conference and he basically confirmed he would coach against the Niners (though now in retrospect it seems a bit more ambiguous).

Why did they send him out to do a press conference as if it were business as usual and then fire him two hours later? I get that this is terra incognita for the Bears but still.

So was doing the Zoom presser punishment? Did they not tell him he's fired beforehand or did they make him go out and lie about expecting to be coaching next week?

I think it’s stadium related. They finally understand (rightfully) that they can’t just be the Bears and get billions of dollars from the state of Illinois and carte blanche from the city. They have to win people over, and the best way to do that is to win football games or at least bow to fan pressure on issues like this one.

If they told him before hand and he still did that presser then he is a huge coward. He should have told them to fuck off and went to clean out his office.

Absolutely. The only team with a new tax-funded stadium and a recent history of abject failure is the Raiders, and there's nothing Nevada won't divert public education funding from. They had to get serious.

The Chiefs couldn't even pass a stadium referendum. The Bears are dreaming.

It’s desperation at this point. I think they understand the forces at work against for the first time though, and how actually what happens on the field is really the #1 way the Bears interact with the public. Took them about three years into the stadium process to grasp that one.

14-42 the final record for Eberflus. That's gotta be down around Rich Kotite/Rod Marinelli bad.

Kinda crazy that the Bears are out here hat in hand for a team that has won less than a third of its games in 2+ years.

Got to love the spin over the past 3 games. In each instance it was clear that it was the opposing coach that was in danger of blowing the game. However in each of the 3 game's post game analysis it was always Eberflus who took most of the heat. Just so that they would not address what really is the actual "elephant in the room". Which is that the Caleb led offense struggles to score whenever the game really matters.

I don't think the McCaskeys are Scotch-Irish, just regular Irish.

Would have been easier and cleaner and better for Matt Eberflus to do this last week.

Nah, I had the day circled for a while. It was always going to be heading into the long week.

I'm surprised they didn't release Williams instead for not throwing 4 touchdowns yesterday.

Us Long Time, True Bear fans understand and know that he can only generate points when the game is over or it's bumslaying time. Just because you keep falling for the banana in tailpipe doesn't mean that everyone has to McCarver

You're taking more L's on this than the 2024 Chicago White Sox. Much like your guy Caleb Williams, you don't know anything but losing.

As a Long Time Bear Guy, I'm hating to be correct about this. But some things must be done in order for them to get their shit together.

Poles screwed this one up big time. And now it's us TRUE FANS (which you're not) that are paying the price. Like always with this franchise.

I don't think they're cruel. I think they really believed the way to go about it was to pretend that everything was normal until it wasn't, that that's the way it's done so as to Control The Narrative and not let anyone intuit that he's gone. But they didn't even really do that because they botched sending out the Zoom invite, which had everyone suspicious from the outset, and of course they were inclined to be suspicious because like everyone else, they just watched this guy blow a game in the last minute for the third or fourth time in six weeks. Just a bizarre morning all around, right down to Hub Arkush insisting everything was fine and they weren't going to fire him.
