Would be pretty funny if he left already to take a NFL job.

I think he only went to Carolina to get his son as the coach down the road.

Is he going to write "I resign as HC of the UNC" on a napkin?

Today was the Vrabel interview, I don't think anyone expects him to be the next Bears coach

Organizational Incompatibility
It's questionable whether Vrabel would fit with the Halas Hall crowd. Oh, the players would love him or grow to respect him. The people running the show might feel intimidated or afraid of him.

While writing about Vrabel and Bill Belichick, SI.com's Albert Breer described the problem.

"Both guys run detailed, demanding programs," Breer said. "Neither guy is going to give some dude in corporate warm feelings as a co-worker. Which, more and more, I think is a problem for NFL owners.

"They want people to like to come to the office. They want to be able to play with the toy they bought themselves. They want to get some validation of their own genius from the guys they hire."

The Bears definitely used to be a tough and demanding type of organization.

Now Halas Hall is a feel-good, cheery, indecisive operation and they haven't come to grips with how to meld the two styles.

Well for the McCaskeys the Bears org definitely isn't "the toy they bought themselves". I doubt actually rich owners are giving their HC candidates homework on the synergy of football and business.

What is it about Chicago teams that they are always drawn to Iowa State people?

The Bears are overcomplicating this. There's only 4 guys you interview:

1) Vrabel 2) Johnson 3) Flores. 4) The backup guy is Pete Carroll. He's the guy that no one wants because of his age so he'll be there and he's a quality coach but he's more of a 3 or 4-year solution.

Stop messing with the rest and go after the best!

As an Iowa State guy, I love what he has done in Ames. Been a slow grind to turn a door mat program into one that can compete. However, his whole mantra is about building the person, and “5 star culture” over “5 star players”. I’ve never seen him as an NFL coach. Also, I know coaching contracts are made to be broken, but he signed an extension through 2032 a couple weeks ago.

I'm a long time admirer of campbell's work as well, but I agree that he probably wouldn't work in the pros.

I'm really shocked we haven't gotten a Fitz story yet.

Flus has been fired for a couple of months. They should have been able to pare down the group to a very short list by now.

It does take me back. Back to a simpler time when E.T.s were friendly creatures that enjoyed knock-off candy and just wanted to get the hell away from here, GI Joe taught us it is cool to pretend to be a strike force killing our enemies, Dustin Hoffman taught us that a man dressing up as a woman was hilarious and a certain Coatch, whose name starts with Mike and ends with DITKA was hired to bring peace and order to Halas Hall.

Oh...you said brings me back.

Nevermind.

Well nobody got killed in the GI Joe cartoon. Everybody jumped out of their vehicles before they blew up. There were some comic book deaths though, but who reads?

So your plan to improve the offensive line relies heavily on something called “tricknology.” Could you expand on that a bit?

Well, let's look at the word "block." That translates to "be love, cipher, see king." By protecting the quarterback, our king, the offensive line engages in an act of love.

I don’t see any way George McCaskey doesn’t insist that this is the guy. This is their perfect hire.

Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel completed his interview with the Chicago Bears on Wednesday for their head coaching vacancy, the first candidate to officially meet with the team. The Bears conducted a virtual interview with Vrabel, despite having the chance to bring him in to Halas Hall for an in-person meeting.

The 49-year-old met with a contingent that included general manager Ryan Poles, president and CEO Kevin Warren, chairman George McCaskey, senior director of player personnel Jeff King, executive vice president of people and culture & chief human resources officer Liz Geist, and director of football administration Matt Feinstein. The Janitor, Mail room guy, Bears Personal Chef, Head of Laundry, Pool Cleaner, Customer Support Rep, Grounds keeper and the Head of Plumbing.

Has Matt Campbell interviewed for the NFL before?

Reports from 2021 said that Campbell turned down an 8-year, $68.5 million deal to become the Detroit Lions' head coach. That job ultimately went to Dan Campbell, who has turned the team into the No. 1 seed in the NFC for the first time in franchise history.

Back in 2019 six NFL teams reached out to Campbell, a source told the Register. It's not clear if he actually accepted any interviews.
