I wouldn't exactly consider that to be a positive.

The best coaching candidate of the last 2 years picks the Bears job and there is no doubt a huge reason he picked it is because of Williams. He disagrees with your assessment. We will see who is right.

That "WE" will. He likely took it moreso because of the bread than Caleb. And the more established coach jumped at the chance to coach Drake Maye as opposed to the generational one let the record show. I expect the excuse making to start as soon as the games actually begin. "New Coach" "Rookie Coach" "3rd HC in 1+seasons" "Ownership" "GM" Yadda Yadda Yadda. One thing is for sure as "WE" well know. He whom is considered by CFMB posters to be the savior in January will undoubtedly be viewed by MANY to be the pariah by November. That much "WE" know.

There is going to be that happening either way it goes. If Williams and Johnson do a good job there will be excuses to try and show they really are not doing a good job.

I'll make a deal with you. No qualifiers of any kind for next year. Only results matter. You have to agree to the same. Everything both good and bad counts with no qualifiers of any kind.

Nah unlike those that got "moist" about Caleb only to pretend that as if they expected it once he sucked, I will own it.

Your offseason chatter means nothing to me. You're one of the chief excusemakers and would be spin masters around here. And your "predictions" regarding Jayden Daniels have shown themselves to be an utter joke at this point. Every last one of them.

That's why this is perfect. I will make no excuses for bad play or bad results and you will make no excuses for good play or good results. Is that not fair?

What prediction was that?

I don't think I made a prediction on him but I will say that Daniels is likely to end up better than Williams.

Brick you do what you do and I'll do what I do. If you want to "cut deals" then do it with the dudes that get "moist" from watching Caleb play. He sucks and anyone who believes that Ben Johnson will drastically change this is deluding themselves. That's whom you need to be discussing this with.

So to be clear, you have a problem with people hypothetically making excuses for next year but you also want to be able to make as many excuses as you want for next year?

You do though. You keep on complaining about excuses being made next year but you won't pledge to not make excuses yourself.

It's really amazing that you are making a conscious decision to make excuses next year for good things that happen with the Bears.

Me: "How about we make no excuses next year?"
You: "No, I plan to make excuses next year."

Hey Brick how about we tally each other's "excuses" from this past season and see where we get?

Well, you'd be WAY ahead on excuses if you really want to.

But I'm on to next season. Why do you feel that you'll need to make a huge amount of excuses next year?

Well let's tally it then. I'm not interested in next season because all you are going to do is "redefine" what an excuse happens to be when the time comes. Then argue for 3 weeks about why you aren't making an excuse. Let's see about this past season and your excuse making or better yet "apologies" for Caleb's "good play"

Nope. We count everything. It's perfect. Why would you not want this?

I'm taking away any argument. The results are the results. No qualifiers. Why does this concern you so much?

Why is everything a "stipulation" with you? Just make your comment and keep it pushing.

And again all this will devolve into is a discussion about what is or is not an "excuse"

It seems to me that an excuse is anything said in favor of Williams. A fact is anything said against Williams.

I believe you are the one who started the discussion about excuses for next year. When offered a logical solution which is to not make any excuses for next year you have declined.

That's the cool part. It can't. The results are the results.

Haven't you repeatedly claimed that Caleb played well to very well this season even after statistic after statistic suggested that he was one of the worst QBs in the league? With this being the case why is "your word" about anything to be trusted? Just Asking Questions

At the end of the day when your quarterback who you took first overall is soundly outplayed by three other quarterbacks taken in the first round of the same draft this is how it’s going to be. You judge players against their peers, and Caleb Williams is way way way behind his peers.

This gets some of you and your panties in a massive bunch to point out, but it’s an undeniable truth.

He played well to very well in many individual games. He also was horrendous in other games. That's just a fact.

Still though, why aren't you willing to just judge Williams on his play next year instead of making excuses for good or bad play?

The numbers validated whatever my pre season assessment of him happened to be. And when it did every excuse in the book from coaches to GM to OL to even Backs and receivers was used to an excuse as to why he sucked.

Even though he clearly had enough of a supporting cast around him to have played better. The Bears offense went into the 4th qtr of 9 games (really 11 when you count Tenn. And Green Bay) this season having scored in the single digits. Which is the primary reason that they had such a terrible season. Most of that is on Caleb and his terrible play as the team's QB

Because of comments such as the 2 I just highlighted above. I'm not wasting my time debating what is and isn't "an excuse"

He got steadily worse as the year progressed. Not really the upward trajectory you want to see.

It's just a fact though. QB Rating of 95 or better in 9 games. Take away the two blowout losses to SF and Detroit and it's still 7 games.

6 games he was horrendous in though.

I guess he doesn't agree with the assessment of Caleb by some of the board notables

I wouldn't exactly consider that to be a positive.

The best coaching candidate of the last 2 years picks the Bears job and there is no doubt a huge reason he picked it is because of Williams. He disagrees with your assessment. We will see who is right.

The great part is that for whatever reason, this was the job he reportedly wanted last year too to the point he may have been willing to wait a whole year to get it. Then, he turned down the amazing Tom Brady with an offer he couldn't refuse but he actually did refuse it.

It's a good narrative and I choose to believe it until further notice...Caleb must be good and Johnson knows it. Caleb's ball whistles.

Ben Johnson also must have really liked the text that Williams sent when he got catfished.

Still though, why aren't you willing to just judge Williams on his play next year instead of making excuses for good or bad play?

Because of comments such as the one I just highlighted above

It's just a fact though. QB Rating of 95 or better in 9 games. Take away the two blowout losses to SF and Detroit and it's still 7 games.

6 games he was horrendous in though.

The overwhelming number of stats validates that he was one of the worst QBs in the league.

And you just tried to pass off something that was clearly your opinion as a fact. Which is exactly what you will do when it comes to an excuse. Not interested.

But how about this. Why don't you provide a list of stats which validate that he played "very well" and I'll list the things which demonstrate that he played very badly and see where we get? Hell I'll even start a separate thread or bump some of the others.

We got Johnson. The creator of the coolest trick play I ever saw. It doesn't cost you anything to have a little optimism.

It is a fact. No one would make an argument that a 95 QB rating in a close game is examples of him playing "well to very well". By the way, Justin Fields, under the same criteria, had 11 games with a 95 or better QB rating, and 10 with a QB rating of 95 or better in a close game.

I did. I've already said the 7 games he played well and the game was within 6 points or they won.
