Happy third day of draft everyone!

So was he the one actually making the picks? I thought he was director of scouting at his last 2 stops

Not defending him, just asking. Has he been the guy making picks before?

IB, clearly you are not a fan of Emery. Who was your guy you wanted the Bears to hire?

I liked the things he did in the things leading up to the draft. He got Cutler a WR that can go get the ball. He addressed the back up QB position. He got a good RB to give you some insurance with the whole Forte deal. I like bringing in Hayes to help the LB.

Ok so far he has drafted an undersized white defense lineman. Like someone pointed out to me the other day, name all the great white D lineman in the last 5-10 years. Not racist, just pointing it out. He drafted a WR with weight concerns(after reading more about this guy I actually like him though) and he drafted a safety that did not play at all last year.

What the FUCK.

Jared Allen has been pretty good. JJ Watt with the Texans has been good.

How is Howie Long's kid doing?

Close the book on this draft. No pick in the 5th and I'm going to go out on a limb and say this group isn't the type that going to find late round gems.

My closing comment- get Burfict as an UDFA just to see what he has. He could be a guy you groom to replace Urlacher.

I don't follow NFL inter-office crap all that closely to be honest. I just know that, in all of professional football, there has to be someone with better credentials than Emery. His record as a scout is below mediocre, and that supposedly is his best asset.

That is what I have been saying. I looked him up after the hire and there was absolutely nothing that stood out. He had 1 good draft in KC and who knows what he was even responsible for. Trading for Brandon Marshall and signing Michael Bush are things anyone could have done so this love for him seems very premature.

Just so we are clear, so far in this draft the Bears picked:

1.) a pass rushing specialist who didn't get sacks in the Mountain West
2.) a cornerback who can't play cornerback in the NFL
3.) a pass catching tight end who didn't catch passes in college

And they reached above projections for all three players.

I like the Jeffrey pick FWIW.

That's entirely the problem. Marshall's past production isn't nearly as impressive as people think it is.

5 straight years of over 1,000 yards receiving with 3 years of over 100 receptions. How is that not impressive? Maybe he won't produce going forward, but it seems has has produced every year so far.

2009 Denver Broncos 101 1,120

Being a receiver is like being a basketball player. You can't just look at the made shots. There's a denominator too.

ok. Explain what I am missing then. What is not impressive about 5 seasons like that, especially considering the complete ineptitude of the Bears WRs over the last 30 years?

That those 100 receptions come at the cost of 60+ incompletions.

I see 3 great players here along with some average players as well with maybe one or two good seasons.

Also, before I get John Kirked after I disappear again for six months, I didn't dislike the trade, exactly. The price was fairly cheap in draft picks, although the cap hit is relatively hard for the production. He's a useful player. He has more upside with Jay Cutler than Chad Henne, though last year was actually one of his better seasons. But he is not nearly as superfantastic as Chicago fans think, and having to watch him for 16 games will hammer that home.

Every one of those players made a Pro Bowl within the past five years except for Long, who was a multiple-alternate, and JJ Watt, who was a rookie last season. Your friend made a stupid point.

If your making the pro bowl is your arguing point than just stop because pretty much everyone can make the pro bowl with the amount of people that back out. David Garrard made the pro bowl in 2010 and he was the 13th ranked passer that year.

Yep. He's going to get a lot of catches, but he's going to demand a lot of passes too, at least if he is used like he has been. If they dial back the usage he'll probably catch a higher percentage, which is good, but his regular counting stats will be worse and everyone will wonder why he is "sucking" as a bear.

And once again, I don't think he'll be bad exactly, though there's a very real chance he goes all Metta World Peace and punches Charles Woodson in the throat. He is a useful player. He has been lauded as much more.
