Kicking a field goal on 2nd down. Let's not forget that one. I love what Trestman did with the offense but that was horseshit.

He was responsible for at least 2 L's.

Did that really just happen? Also, what the fuck was up with those refs? Are they from Wisconsin or something? Pathetic all around.

Refs handpicked by State Farm.

They Discount Doublechecked the FUCK out of us today.

I didn't notice them much. I did notice the Bears gave up a 48 yard TD on a fourth and eight, which means you didn't deserve to win anyway, refs notwithstanding.

I thought they were universally horrible. I thought they blew the challenges for the Bears and the Packers. Don't know what the fuck they were looking at.

The teams that went for at least 21 included high-caliber offensive juggernauts like the Vikings (31), Rams (42), and Browns (31). Even if you take away things like pick-sixes and fumble returns, it still doesn't look pretty.

Nice summary. Honestly, this was a historically bad defense. One of the worst all-time. We had many injuries, no doubt. But still, we saw basically no improvement in numerous positions. Hard to defend Tucker.

Lots of room to improve in coaching, QB play, and special teams, but the Bears are missing the playoffs this year because of their defense.

Mel Tucker was in over his head.

Yup. Tucker is the very definition of the Peter principle. Hiring Mel Tucker was a big mistake & telling him that he had to maintain Lovies system & terminology was also a big mistake. I used to rip Lovie for not being able to hire assistant coaches & coordinators, so I must also rip my guy Trestman for hiring Tucker, a guy who has no resume. What the hell has he ever done? Maybe he & Trestman have a relationship...I don't know. What I do know is with an average Defense this years Bears team goes 11-5 or 12-4.

If Jim Schwartz gets wacked in Detroit, I wouldn't mind having him as the Bears Defensive coordinator. He had some pretty good Defenses as the DC in Tennessee.

I get why they kept the same system (if it isn't broke don't fix it) but I don't understand why they hired him. It never made sense.

Requiring a new coach to run someone elses system is ridiculous to me.

I don't know about Schwartz, but Marinelli redeemed himself as a DC for the Bears. But if we're going to complain about the Bears failing to pay attention to detail (playing until the whistle/practicing picking up the ball in practice no matter what, etc.) then Schwartz doesn't seem to be the answer. His Detroit teams were dumb as hell.

The points per game surrendered, the rush yards per game surrendered, all time lows for the Bears and yet just another year for Mel Tucker. The experiment to keep the Cover-2 failed back in training camp when he began bringing the strong safety up to the line, as for playing a 4-3 defense Tucker can't be the only person who knows the scheme. Its on the coordinator to see what is happening game to game and to make the adjustments for where players are to be positioned and how he wants them to read and recognize.

At least the Cowboys defense made an effort yesterday, unlike the Bears...too bad Orton wasted it with the final pic.

It was obvious from the first couple games that this was going to be a train wreck. Worst yards/carry in NFL in 50 years!!

Biggsy was on this AM and was talking about how it will be better when everyone comes back healthy next year. Are you shitting me??

Is it not the same system he had run in the past? It is not like he was a 3-4 guy and they forced him to run a 4-3.

You don't think they will be better next year? It's almost impossible not to be.

Yeah, that's from the old Jim Hendry book of excuses. He would bring Kerry Wood back every year and then act surprised when he went down with the inevitable injury.

Tillman may be done, Briggs looks done, Peppers is done.

Because they suffered injuries well above the mean that should be expected, including to every key player on the defense. That + some offseason additions + the fact that they were historically bad would seem to indicate that it's very likely they will be improved next season. They still might suck, but that would still be an improvement.

Fire Joe Decamillis first. The difference in the intensity and quality of play on special teams this year was glaring.

There should be no first. Just walk into Halas Hall and start screaming for all the staff to pack up and GTFO.

There is more to defense than 4-3 or 3-4. Who in the hell is Mel Tucker other than a guy who coached lousy defenses in Jax? Bad hire & bad strategy to tell him that he must maintain the previous defensive coordinators system & terminology.

I am aware there is more to defense than 4-3 and 3-4.

You keep saying he was told to keep the previous system and terminology. How do you know this?

The articles I read said he decided to do that. Did not sound like a forced thing at all.

he was told to keep the system, he chose to keep the terminology. that is what the media reported. of course it could all just be a big lie and he was told to convert to a 3-4 but refused?

You got a link or something to show this?

Everything I find when I search for it says it was Tuckers plan. Says nothing about it being told to him or forced on him.

‘‘Mel will add his spin on it — creating new ideas and new ways of doing things,’‘ Bears coach Marc Trestman said at the Walter Payton Center during a news conference to introduce his coaching staff. ‘‘But essentially the style of play and the type of football we’re going to play defensively will not change much.’’

‘‘I’m not going to get into the details and the strategy, but our base will be a 4-3,’’ Tucker said when asked if he would apply ‘‘any 3-4 principles’’ to this defense. ‘‘We don’t have any plans to switch [to a 3-4] at this point.’’

You know that great Eagle offense? The Bear debacle, a fairly insignificant game to them mind you, was sandwiched between a 22 point effort against the Cowboys and a garbage time aided 30 point effort against the Vikings. Both of those teams had bottom dwelling defenses and managed to put up a test for the Eagles.

Fire Mel Tucker. Don't let good money chase bad money.
