If there was one guy who I would've thought would break out with a fifteen sack season out of nowhere it was Barkevious Mingo. When both the Patriots and Seahawks seek out and acquire a player who had such raw talent out of college you have to think there is something there waiting to burst. The guy clearly puts the work in, he wouldn't have made it with those teams if he didn't.

I dont know, maybe it'll come at age twenty-nine for the guy. I really doubt it. Still, he's a veteran who plays the run pretty well.

Pace will up it to 45 million and give him a no trade clause.

Yup. Surprised he has lasted this long. We are his 6th team in 7 years. Hard to believe he was a 1st round (6th overall) pick at one point.

I was certain he was going to be a star coming out of college.

(670 The Score) The Bears have agreed to a deal with offensive lineman Germain Ifedi, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Wednesday afternoon.
Ifedi, 25, was a first-round pick of the Seahawks in 2016. He started 60 games over the last four seasons, playing both guard and tackle.
Terms of Ifedi's deal with the Bears weren't immediately clear. Ifedi joins a Bears offensive line with four set starters and a key opening at right guard, where he projects to play.

It sounds like he wasn't bad at his job, he was just a Leno on the right side. A shit load of false starts and holds. He didn't miss a snap though. Hopefully moving to the inside helps.

This is a bad player who probably doesn't deserve a veteran contract. As depth its OK, I'd have to see the terms. The Bears continue to not add impact talent.

This is the team that went from adding Allen Robinson, Roquan Smith and Khalil Mack in one off-season (not to mention Anthony Miller who would be a star in this league with a decent quarterback) to now the likes of Jimmy Graham, Robert Quinn and Germain Ifedi. This is after an off-season when there most notable acquisiton was Buster Skrine.

Pace has just totally blown it. Comprehensively. I dont think they have actually added a good starter quality player to this roster since they traded for Khalil Mack in August 2018.

When Pace came in he rapidly starting filling roster holes by signing NFL average FA's to one year deals with the hope that he would be able to draft players that would eventually serve as upgrades at those positions and first/second round picks would provide the star power. The problem is that he has consistently missed with top picks, most notably at the QB position, cannot identify talent at the TE position, and has refused to use high picks on the LT position. There have been some successes later in the draft and with veteran FA's, but the heart and soul of a team is built through the draft.

Pace filled this roster out very well his first three years. He inherited one of the worst defenses in the NFL and relatively quickly rebuilt it into being the absolute best. Busts happen, I really do not hold Shaheen or White against him to the extent many others do. You'd be hard pressed to find any general manager in the entire sport who has a better drafting record than Pace overall.

But now he seems to have spent years just standing in awe of his own work instead of actually trying to stay ahead of the league. Last off-season was just pathetic with them going for Buster Skrine, Cordarelle Patterson and Mike Davis as their headline acquisitions. This go-around has been just as bad and pathetic but for different reasons. Flailing at Jimmy Graham and Robert Quinn as answers is doomed to failure, especially while the offensive line languishes. Though Foles was a good acquisition the cost paid and reworked contract make no sense.

I still say that they wasted a lot of money on Foles which could have been used to trade for Williams and sign another OT and G. It is total mismanagement by the GM once again.

Overall I agree with you. I have tended to be harder on Pace for the 1st round busts and you have pointed out very well that he's not alone....brought me back in to a bit of reality.

I think my problem is just that I knew the Mitch pick was bad. Everything about it was on the surface wrong and a "reach" when he didn't need to reach. Now that it's been few seasons....the Mitch pick alone is a firable offense. The last 2 seasons of FA have been icing on the cake. Pace needs to go.

I was willing to keep him around because I really thought he would find that 2018 spirit again where he aggressively found massive upgrades and didn't settle for sub-standard "OK" talent. I was even fine to let him get another bite at the quarterback apple, I was willing to believe he would do better on his second chance at finding a quarterback in the draft than a new general manager would be.

But this off-season has crushed that. The bad money given out to Trevathan, Quinn and Graham was at least double more than any team would have given up. And I dont think any of those are going to contribute at all in 2020 and beyond. Maybe Quinn will have five and a half sacks or something one year, but after that he's done. He made the Bears older, worse, slower and more expensive in an off-season where they should have concentrated on getting younger, leaner and more elite.

There was just no plan. Free agency started and they seemed to have been caught totally by surprise, just taking the guys who were huge named seven years ago. Its humiliating, they got so much worse this off-season. And now Leno Jr. and Bobbie Massie, two of the worst starters in the entire NFL, are going to start every game this season. He has no clue what is going on.

Sadly, as it is every time, I have zero faith in Bears brass to have idea 1 on who to hire next time.

And just saw this on Wiki regarding Pace:

"In 2015, Pace was offered an interview for the general manager position by the New York Jets, but declined." Why Ryan.....WHY ?????

The money Graham and Trevathan cost could've net Conklin and the $70m wasted on Quinn would've gotten them pretty close to what Trent Williams is going to cost. There's two new tackles and honestly, the roster is no worse with Holtz, KPL (who would've been brought back) and Floyd than those guys. I would venture to say all three of the guys the Bears brought in replacements for will be way better than the players Pace dropped massive money on. How incredible is that the Bears could have two new tackles and still be a better team because it would mean they wouldn't have all these bums they acquired.

Its really something else.
