He’s a hardo loser. Guy just sucks. Glommed onto the KC teat and milked it, but now he’s on his own and an abject failure.

Also he’s fat and ugly.

He'll be able to draft Maye and Harrison/Bowers next season.

I suspect he’s the type who’ll love Maye.

This is a clear case of a guy out of his depth. They hired him young absent any notable achievements. There’s no reason to think he’s not the guy his record tells you he is.

You're flying blind most of the time when it comes to GM's. Just hope you get a good one, there's not a lot you can really do to really know.

I agree in the big picture but disagree with your framing. The Bears did this the lazy way. Here's their "process":

1) Bears: Hey Ernie, what are some of the best teams in the league?

2) Ernie: according to my expert opinion, that would be KC or maybe Buffalo. That'll be 2M dollars by the way.

3) Bears: Cool, here you go. Thanks for the hard work. Hey [insert internal Bootlicking functionary], can you use LinkedIn to look up anyone working for KC?

4) Sure, here's this guy named Ryan Poles. He's in the front office but I don't know what he does.

5) That's all right, I don't need to know. Hey PR team, can you create some email blast material hyping up a new hire? Emphasize connections to KC.

6) Sure!

7) Hey Ryan , thanks for agreeing to interview. What's been your best accomplishment at KC? You all seem pretty good.

8) Well, when I got coffee for the guy who knew the guy who interned for the guy who drafted Patrick Mahomes, I made sure...

9) I've heard enough, you're hired.

3)

There will have to be a scapegoat, they likely launch coaches first, wondering if you start with the DC, or if you just launch Eberflus?

You gave Poles the keys to the castle and tons of resources, next off season will be a rare opportunity to reshape the roster with tons of draft capital and cap space, not sure the fan base is going to be patient with this group given the disastrous opening game performance.

Poles gets the chance to draft his own quarterback. That game is completely different if you have a quarterback who you don't have to game plan to throw 5 yards passes and hope for huge YAC numbers.

Yep. The Bears invented the forward pass almost 100 years ago, buy they have a quarterback who struggles consistently completely passes more than 2 yards downfield.

What "rare opportunity" are you talking about? You just used "rare opportunity" to describe Poles options THIS off-season and he blew it. Face it: your guy Poles sucks.

Fwiw, the defense sucks too.

You don't completely gut a team and expect a turnaround immediately. The Bears have 30+ new players this season. Next season is theoretically when we should expect the Bears to be be better overall.

I agree turnarounds don't happen asap (mostly) but people here myself included had fair criticism of his accomplishments this past summer. People like claymaster continue to frame failure as "part of the plan".

I suspect he hoped Fields would take the next step, but understood his job didn't require it. Based on his public assessment of the areas Fields can improve in, I'm confident his eyes work.

There's no question this roster is far more talented than it was when he arrived. It's still nowhere near as talented as the Lions roster.

Their defensive line has to be bottom 5 in the league. The offensive line was better but came in injured, so on day 1, they were a bottom 5 in the league as well.

Rebuild is a 3-4 years process if you are good enough. Poles needs 1-2 years more for evaluation. So far the trend is downward, but two first round draft picks next year could help change that.

He just had an off-season with tons of draft capital and cap space and the team managed to get even worse!

For all the Bears faults they very seldom stick with a guy longer than they should. They are not shy about firing people. If the Bears do not turn this around in a way that seems almost impossible looking at it now things get nasty. DJ Moore was not a happy camper yesterday and Fields' petulance is starting to show. The Bears won't give them another chance if this becomes a total embarassment.

The HITS principle and talk about culture is a farce. They wasted top assets on bad eggs that don't play hard at all, see Claypool and Nate Davis.

The HITS principle is viewed as a joke when your vets don't follow it. Davis should have been benched. The team was not prepared or conditioned for this game. Eberflus is trending towards Mark Tresman level of incompetence as a HC.

Eddie Jackson clowned them. He said all the right things, tried really hard last year, and once he had them won over thinking he was one of "their guys" and he knew his $13m salary this year was safe he promptly fucked right off and stopped caring again.

Because they had more than enough cap space to eat the dead cap figure on him this year to give themselves more flexibility down the road. Eddie and his agent had to have recognized that. So he played these idiots like a fiddle, and now like Davis and Claypool and Patrick he's achieved this exalted status where no matter how little he tries or cares they'll keep playing him and paying him to save face.

The defensive line was fine against the run, it's the pass rush that was awful. The sack we got was a coverage sack. They're counting on a lot of those. I'm not sure if you can expect Gordon and Brisker to stay healthy all season or that we'll get 2022 Eddie Jackson.

Anyone that actually thinks Poles will be fired this year is just dumb. The best one can hope for is Flus gets canned. Poles will get to draft his own QB
