Why would any good GM take the job if you fire Poles in less than 2 years? All you will get is a Pace type who mortgages the future with bad move after bad move trying to placate idiot fans.

Because there are 32 jobs available and you have confidence in yourself to do the job well.

I said this earlier. Somebody has to. He's thrown into the middle of it, whether anybody, including himself, likes it or not

Having Trace Armstrong and Bill Polian making football decisions isn’t going well.

A good GM candidate will have multiple options. You only get one opportunity to be a GM. If you're going to an organization that won't allow you more than 2 years to implement your vision, you're setting yourself up for failure.

So you would have retained Phil Emery for a third season?

Got any more terrible football thoughts to share?

Phil Emery took over a 10-6 team that had a good to great defense. They weren't rebuilding. This is a rebuild whether Poles is here or the next guy you'll surely hate gets hired. I wish Justin Fields didn't ruin positive/optimistic Tall Midget.

I don't hate Poles. I just haven't seen any evidence that he's a reliable talent evaluator. The only clear impact player that he's acquired so far is DJ Moore. Everyone else is a question mark....or worse.

I agree with you, even though I would probably put Edmunds on that list. That said, I appear to be more willing to give him some time, and I think I like how the team is positioned regarding cap space, draft capital, and roster potential than you do. I want to see more development by the end of this year, though.

According to Pro Football Focus (I know, I know), Roquan Smith is the top linebacker in the NFL so far this season.

Roquan is a strange guy, so I wasn't particularly excited about the prospect of re-signing him.

It does seem, though, that he's another player--like Jenkins--that Poles wanted to jettison despite his elite potential.

Poles's strategy of acquiring multiple assets (draft pick, cap space) in exchange for trading Roquan and removing him from the payroll is theoretically a smart one.

But has the strategy been executed effectively?

Does Poles' tenure thus far exhibit a divide between theory and practice or strategy and execution? Does Poles know what needs to be done while still failing to do it at a satisfactory level?

Poles may be a good architect, but he seems to be faltering as a builder.

He turned Roquan into Dexter, Sewell and a guy he cut after a couple weeks (and the vaunted cap space!).

It’s tough to fully assess the trade given Roquan’s contract and his lack of gruntle in Chicago. But it is a decent look at how easy it can be to turn something into nothing. Not saying that’ll happen here, but for Poles’ sake, you really want to see Dexter turn into something.

If Caleb Williams comes here and Eberflus is gone, you just know Poles is going to look at Caleb, Moore, and Mooney and think to himself that he's got to find the best strength and conditioning coordinator ever to be the next head coach of the Bears.

Edmunds and Jones are what we got for Roquan. The draft pick is a potential bonus.

Edit: I wouldn't have given Roquan $100M for any reason.

The Ravens are using Roquan correctly, he is best in a 3-4 with huge defensive lineman taking on blockers so that he can play as almost an extra safety and hang out 5-10 yards off the line of scrimmage and then use his speed to make tackles, he also looks to be in significantly better shape than he was with the Bears.

The Bears current MLB plays like the rest of the defense and looks lost out there, the one thing you notice is how deep his drops are and how he lacks intincts in run support, almost always takes a false step in the wrong direction and is easily redirected by blockers because he stands almost straight up with no knee bend when taking on blockers. You can see why Buffalo did not pay him, just a guy that looks like he should make a ton of plays but rarely does anything special.

The defense and let's be honest, the offfense, both look like they have never seen the opposing team play before, everything seems to surprise them as if they have not been coached all week.

If you go back and watch some of Lovie's Cover-2 teams you quickly notice how poorly the current team plays in base, guys are in the wrong spots and consistently either drop too deep in the zones or miss tackles when they are in the right position.

Have heard several people say that watching the Bears is like watching the JV team take on the varsity and that gets back to Poles who picked these guys and who has watched Eberflus coach this team in the abyss.

When you watch the Lions, who have spend tons of draft capital on building both lines, and are now able to win at the line of scrimmage, and then watch the bears get bitch slapped around at the line of scrimmage, you quickly realize how dumb your "football experts" actually are and that they know positively nothing about football which is still a very simple game that is won when your large angry men are able to shove the other teams large angry men a couple of feet consistently.

The way Eberflus runs his cover 2 without pressure on the QB is essentially running a prevent defense. It's not a surprise that the Bears have lost 13 in a row giving up 25pts each game with it.

You have heard the term "it starts in the trenches", well Poles decided to zig when everyone else zagged and to him it all starts in "Off the Ball Linebackers, nickel corners and obsolete return man". The result of this attempt at market inefficiency? Possibly the worst team in pro football in nearly a decade. What an awful hire.

They play two completely different positions, Bob. The Bears were giving up more rushing yardage last year with Roquan in the middle.

 Let me know when the scoreboard reflects "Rushing Yards Allowed" and not "Points Allowed" for which the Bears are 2nd worst in the NFL at 35 PPG

Also let me know when Baby Urlacher is being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio.

Caller Bob, do you need a hug? Your only purpose for posting appears to be to annoy. The only problem is you're predictable, and nothing about your approach is subtle. I'm sending you a virtual hug. I hope all is well.

I don't need a hug but you could send me a "Future Hall of Famer" Tremaine Edmunds aka "Baby Urlacher" jersey

Bob, come on, you know how this works. Let someone else post those for you just don’t wait around, holding your breath for it.

On second thought…

It was proper that you asked but then you showed your true colors by forcing it on him.

Thoughts and prayers that Bob is OK.
