He won't last that long.

They'll give it to him too, they want to keep AP.

Depends on offers.. if the Bears fuck up and franchise him then the point is moot.

Perhaps, but it seems that wisdom may be changing due to the current wave of young QB talent, as well as GMs seeing how disasters like the Flacco signing are a quick way to kill a team for years.

The thing that really hurts Cutler too is the fact he is clearly injury-prone. Even if he were an elite QB, he does not stay healthy.

I'm not sure I'd classify him as injury prone. Coming into this season he had 3 years of 16 games played, 2 of 15 and the 1 of 10 which was a fluke finger injury. And during the last few years he got his ass absolutely beaten but still played the vast majority of games.

And while it's not a full season yet, he's posted his best QB rating of his career. People forget how good he has been this year. Prior to the groin, he was 3rd in the league in QBR. He was playing at a very high level. He'll get overpaid.

Cutler.

I still haven't heard who we are starting next year. McCown? Bradford? It better not be a rookie 3rd rounder.

Cut Jay loose & draft a kid who can be plugged right in to Trestys offensive system...like Aaron Murrray. Murray is made for Trestys Offense. He could start next year in this system.

He's clearly better in this system than he's ever been. Think what some time would do.

Those numbers are misleading. Watching the games really tells you that it's pretty much the same Cutler we've always seen.

Just imagine what Trestman could do with Grossman. The mind races, huh?

He is currently 10th in QBR...are you saying he fell from 3rd to 10th in one week?

With all the offensive weapons this year and a coach that is known for maximizing a QB's potential, Cutler has posted an underwhelming passer rating of 88.4 (much of that in garbage time), which is basically the same rating as he's always had. He's never been over 90 for a season. Ever. He's basically Joe Flacco, but with a much worse TD to INT ratio. Let's learn from the Ravens' mistake.

I do. He'll be a free agent next year too. Cutler has made us appreciate and see how great of an offensive mind Trestman has. That wasn't clear until Cutler got hurt.

Bring him in to the fold. Trestman can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Agreed. McCown's rating is over 100 through 4 games (none of it in garbage time). No game has been under 90, including today's mudfest. Now we can all see that McCown's physical skills are barely average, so the credit has to go in part to Trestman and the other players. McCown's mental superiority over Cutler outweighs the arm strength inferiority.

The end of the New Orleans game and pretty much the entire 4th qtr of the first Lions game.

I'd like to see a stat (maybe there is one) that measures QB rating in situations where the game's outcome is still in doubt.

He sucked in the Lions game.

He was over 90 in the 4 wins and 128 against NO. So throw out NO, he's still 3-90s and a plus 100 in the 4 wins.

Agreed, his rating was 65.6. But it would have been even worse without the two meaningless TDs he threw in the 4th quarter after the game was out of reach.

Look, all I'm saying is I think people are just ignoring that Cutler looked good also. He was 4-2 with back-to-back 100+ ratings before he got hurt. He was improving.

McCown has done great. But he can't complete a pass over 20 yards. That will be a problem over time.

This win only makes me more pissed about the many bad decisions made in last week's loss.

That's all well and good. Going forward, Cutler looks good at 13+ million and MCown looks good at 3- million. I'll take Josh and money for the defense.

I know Josh McCown winning the Super Bowl would make the Kurt Warner story look like he was entitled.

He could probably still get a couple out of Warner.
