There should be no first. Just walk into Halas Hall and start screaming for all the staff to pack up and GTFO.

I'd let Mike Groh stay.

Requiring a new coach to run someone elses system is ridiculous to me.

Is it not the same system he had run in the past? It is not like he was a 3-4 guy and they forced him to run a 4-3.

There is more to defense than 4-3 or 3-4. Who in the hell is Mel Tucker other than a guy who coached lousy defenses in Jax? Bad hire & bad strategy to tell him that he must maintain the previous defensive coordinators system & terminology.

I am aware there is more to defense than 4-3 and 3-4.

You keep saying he was told to keep the previous system and terminology. How do you know this?

The articles I read said he decided to do that. Did not sound like a forced thing at all.

he was told to keep the system, he chose to keep the terminology. that is what the media reported. of course it could all just be a big lie and he was told to convert to a 3-4 but refused?

You got a link or something to show this?

Everything I find when I search for it says it was Tuckers plan. Says nothing about it being told to him or forced on him.

‘‘Mel will add his spin on it — creating new ideas and new ways of doing things,’‘ Bears coach Marc Trestman said at the Walter Payton Center during a news conference to introduce his coaching staff. ‘‘But essentially the style of play and the type of football we’re going to play defensively will not change much.’’

‘‘I’m not going to get into the details and the strategy, but our base will be a 4-3,’’ Tucker said when asked if he would apply ‘‘any 3-4 principles’’ to this defense. ‘‘We don’t have any plans to switch [to a 3-4] at this point.’’

You know that great Eagle offense? The Bear debacle, a fairly insignificant game to them mind you, was sandwiched between a 22 point effort against the Cowboys and a garbage time aided 30 point effort against the Vikings. Both of those teams had bottom dwelling defenses and managed to put up a test for the Eagles.

Fire Mel Tucker. Don't let good money chase bad money.

From what I read Briggs has called him out. That last play was the epitome of his failed coaching and leadership.

Interestingly, it was Tucker's excellent work as Cleveland's secondaries coach that got him the DC gig in JAX.

So either he is a good coach or coaching is irrelevant. :?:

Or some guys are good managing a small specific group of people. Not everyone can be a CEO, that doesnt mean they cant be a good IT manager.

And what in that says this was forced upon him and not what he wanted to do?

So like I said you have nothing that says this was forced upon him.

Everything i have read says this was his idea, what he wanted to do.

The problems were not systems specific, they were fundamentals and a lack of basic positioning knowledge.

I agree. And he should be held accountable for that. But a few guys here act as if Tucker was just drug along with this whole idea and I see nothing like that. It is what he wanted to do and I don't think it was a bad plan, just bad coaching and execution in carrying out the plan

Believe whatever you want. I'm not going to argue about the night being dark.

That defense certainly can be good, I'm not arguing that. I wanted him fired after two games it was so obvious.

WHOEVER THE BEARS HIRE FOR DC WILL BE RUNNING THE SAME DEFENSE. That is what they said. I heard it. I am not making it up. Why would I make this shit up. That is what they said.

If the vets like Tucker's idea of using the same defense Lovie used, what the fuck happened over one goddamn season? Did the vets forget everything or was Tucker just a shitty coach?

I think we have to assume right now he is a bad coach. The system is fine. Had a lot of the same players. Did not seem to be as prepared or disciplined as needed which falls back on coaching. Obviously, injuries had a big impact too.

Can we package both the ST coach and Mel Tucker and trade them for a bag of ball?

If Melton, Tillman and Briggs were not hurt and Peppers didn't age 5 years in the off season we are not even having this convo.
