The Montreal Alouettes added a touch of "sweetness" by signing running back Jarrett Payton, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Walter Payton.
Jarrett Payton signed a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year, with the Alouettes Thursday. Terms or the deal were not disclosed.
Payton, 26, played 13 games for the NFL's Tennessee Titans during the 2005 season.
He also spent time with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe. In 2005, he won the World Bowl with the Admirals after rushing for 578 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season.
Jarrett's father, Walter Payton, played for the Chicago Bears from 1975 to 1987 and is regarded as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history.
Payton, who earned the nickname "Sweetness" for his unique and distinctive running style, rushed for 16,726 yards and 110 touchdowns during his NFL career.
Walter Payton died from cancer Nov. 1, 1999, at the age of 45.
