Why not? It's been 31 years since they've won a title. It's not exactly breaking up a dynasty.

So he would be the Sweaty Teddy in this scenario? Or he would be in a position over Pace with no final say on anything because as we know Pace has all say on football decisions. Unless it has to do with the coaching staff, then it's Fox's call. And any other qualifying scenarios.

If he gets hired and I'm Pace, I ask to be let out of my contract immediately.

Yea....I'm going to have to withdraw my original thought on this. What exactly is the point of this? Pace is supposed to be the football guy. Why would bring in another layer of management? It's either Pace's show to run or it isn't.

A senior executive, advisory position with the right franchise would appeal to Polian, sources said, and there is a possibility the Bears restructure their front office in a scenario where Polian would be a senior adviser who oversees coaching and football operations in 2017 and then makes determinations about how he believes the organization should move forward.

I guess that answers my question. Pace should leave if he is hired.

Rode an elevator with him about 15 years ago in The Lurie Building. We talked football in that brief time. Pretty cool guy.

Didn't Polian turn the Colts into a house of cards that collapsed without Peyton Manning?

IF he gets hired, looks like Barkley might be the Bears QB of the future:
http://coachingsearch.com/article?a=Bil ... arterbacks

THINGS POLIAN LOOKS FOR IN A ROOKIE QB:
- Huddle command

- Can he audible?

- Red zone efficiency

- Accuracy and timing

- Reaction to pressure

Yesterday,Jim Miller on Comcast rated Barkley pretty high on 4 of those 5.

Polian made his mark on the USFL Chicago Blitz. The Bears analyst,Tom Thayer played 16 games with the Blitz in the summer, signed with the Bears and played another 22 games (counting exhibition) for a grand total of 38 games played in one calender year!

Polian had 2 HOF coaches working for him on the Blitz in George Allen & Marv Levy. Polian took some of his USFL Blitz personnel with him in various stops in the NFL,most notably Buffalo.

One guy he didn't take with him was me. I was cut from a free agent tryout with the Blitz in '83.

(impressed???-me neither,it was an open tryout at Soldier Field. Your sister could have went....still pretty cool though.)

The Bears need a football person with enough sway and gravitas to tell Ted Phillips that should he ever see him on the football side of the building again, Teddy will need surgery to extricate his top from his bottom.

Polian would be a great get, provided he doesn't allow any of his kids near the building.

I think Polian is getting a bit underrated in this thread, but the rumor still makes no sense given that Pace is showing some things to you this year. Bears can't stop won't stop fucking themselves.

Yeah, Ryan Pace seems really excited about his 3-10 football team.

At the very minimum, his draft class this year is enough to warrant not having these rumors floating around. The team got absolutely wrecked with injuries, and they have an abysmal head coach and OC in charge on game days.

Makes me nervous simple because it feels much like bringing in Lou Pinella or John Fox to coach. Great namesake in their day, now just looking for a part time gig before completely out to pasture.

The biggest plus is that he may actually have the power to push Ted and the McCaskey's away from football operations. That alone is the biggest indictment of the clusterfuck that is the Bears.

How long has that been the narrative? Since Jerry Angelo's hiring? Or the clown fest that resulted in the ill fated presser with Russ Grimm almost 20 years ago.

It's never changing, the third generation McCaskeys want their shot.

Wasn't a team going to hire Polian a few years back but the sticking point was that he wanted his son installed as GM with the understanding that he'd take over when Bill moved on?

Did he also have an inexhaustible stash of oxycontin or was that just his idiot reprobate boss Irsay Jr? There are a bunch of hurt bears that need your help Bill.

Bill, please come to Chicago and build the Alshon Jeffrey Memorial Dispensary for Bears Who Can't Play Good and Want To Learn To Do Other Things Good To

Relevant Chicago Bears on IR:

Jay Cutler - forget play on the field, he now is a document injury risk. He's missed 5 or more games now dating back to 2011. That's on Pace for decided to stick with Cutler two years ago.

Kyle Fuller - He was 'meh' when healthy

Hroniss Grasu - See Kyle Fuller

Lamarr Houston - See Grasu

Kyle Long - Ok, I'll give Pace this one. Weird/Random injuries to solid player

Zach Miller - Yeah, this is on Pace. You know Miller's injuries when you shipped off Bennett and made Miller your primary TE.

Danny Trevathan - I'll give Pace this one too..Trevathan was healthy before this year.

Kevin White - See Kyle Fuller and Grasu, I have't seen much of a difference between White and Merideth.

So add in Long and Trevathan, what does this team have? 1 or 2 more wins?

This seems like something worth getting excited over:

Image

Floyd was picked 6 spots after Bosa (widely regarded as Good and "A Thing") but is beating him in sacks and tackles despite only appearing in one more game, and is a viable Defensive ROTY candidate.
