Not going to be franchise tagged.

Wouldn't even bother trying to resign him, let some
Other idiot pay him 50 million dollars for his 5 td reception a year average

This belongs in the shout out section, I applaud the Bears for cutting their losses n moving on.

They have plenty of cap space, not signing him is irresponsible. For years fan base cried about having horrible wr, now fan base can't handle the diva baggage that comes with top wr talent?

He's been above-average when 1) he's healthy and/or not suspended, 2) having a QB that can deliver him the ball, or 3) when he actually feels like being on this team.

Good riddance.

I don't mind that he's a diva , I don't think they ever should've gotten rid of Marshall speaking of divas ,

Alshon isn't a top wr, which one of his 2 td receptions last year did you like the best ?

Maybe the 4 he had the season before would be too difficult to choose from.

Agreed.

I think he's a guy who will never be healthy. Far too many other needs to pay a lot of money for a guy who doesn't strike me as being a guy who really cares one way or the other.

I'm cool with them not signing him. They're not gonna make the playoffs with him or without him in the next 2 years. So why spend that money? He's not a number 1 receiver. He's a good #2. But somebody will pay him #1 money.

That's insane, that's how we got Cutler as the highest paid player in NFL history for 2 fuckin seasons...Jeffrey would be owed like 17 mil this year on a 5-7 win team...he's a nice wide out, a great #2...he's no #1 and has no business being the highest paid WR in the league... He's soft, injury prone and a juicer.

Good riddance.

I don't know that I'd characterize it as "good riddance" ... he wasn't an assbag like Marshall or something like that. I'm glad they're moving on though ... what would this team and Alshon really do for each other in a positive sense?

And billypontoons .... "irresponsible"? That seems exceedingly over-dramatic.

This is 10,000% correct. I know the Bears have cap space, but better to move on now and perhaps find a better long-term fit while you go through this waste of a 2017 season.

i guess this board is OK with not having a top 50 WR then, because when alshon goes you have kevin white's 2 broken legs ago combine speed and cameron meredith's... whatever he is

If they knew they were basically going to let him walk then they were negligent by not trading him by the deadline. Regardless of his production alshon has value around the league and its poor management to let someone with high value walk out the door with nothing in return.

Which playoff team had the cap space to bring him in?

You can probably get Kenny stills for half the price

If they made inquiries and came away empty handed then that's fine. And I don't know why they'd limit inquiries to playoff teams only. Smart GMs find ways to extract value from valuable players before they leave for nothing.

What he is, is a shade under 1,000 receiving yards in his second year in the league while being the primary receiver in several games last season. If Meredith were the #7 pick and White the UDFA, we would be raving about how that pick is developing.

If people thought Alshon dogged it, they will pop there tops over Kenny Stills.

I think Alshon is a great player and a top 10 WR but as I said before, you can never give that guy long term, guaranteed money. He perpetually suffers from soft tissue injuries that he really isn't willing to push through. Also, he has shown by his actions over the years that Chicago is really not his preferred location to play. I don't think he has a diva attitude compared to other top WR but I also don't think he has their drive to succeed.

Gotta give credit to Pace for being an innovative GM. Can't say I've ever seen a rebuild strategy built around consistently letting Pro Bowl talent walk for nothing.

Yeah but we would also hang his ass if he tagged Alshon or gave him a long term and the bad predictions came true.

They have the best defensive coordinator in football. Give him the pieces he needs.

Comments have been attributed to Alshon that he cares mostly about the money and second about the weather.

Let him go to Miami with Adam Gase and underperform down there.
