#4. Still impressive. Only powerhouses like the Dolphins, Jets, and Rams are better.

That is pretty impressive. Out here in SoCal, Raiders fans are super pissed that Mack the knife is gone. Gruden is still talking about how he doesn't regret that trade. Well...…..leave it to the Raiders to fuck their team up. Last season they had, on paper, an elite team Then the offensive line threw Carr under the bus. Mack took Carr's side. They fired a pretty good coach and then hired a big egotistical asshole. Let Vegas deal with the Davis organization.

these ratings always seem totally arbitrary until about the halfway point in the season. the colts and redskins? what?

I dont even buy the Bears being #1.

If you want to say best front 7? Of course. There's almost no doubt that as long as they are healthy they have the best front 7 in the league. There are at least 3 guys off to All-Pro starts to the year and the only player in the league who seems like they stand a chance at beating Denzel Ward for DROY is Roquan. I would even say they are probably both strongest against the run and strongest in rushing the passer.

But the secondary is very underwhelming so far. Amos and Callahan have played well but Eddie Jackson and Fuller have not. Amukamara was getting beat too, but big plays make you forget all sins. They have the obvious potential to be the best, and the good news is they have not accumulated their early season production against soft opponents, but I'm not going to say they are #1 beyond a doubt quite yet. I'd probably still defer to the Jags, as they have a fantastic front 7 themselves that is backed up with a lights out secondary.

how many Colts defensive starters can you name off the top of your head? Anyone how can go over 5 is either a coach for the Colts or is a coach that is about to face the Colts. They have Sheard, Hooker and, of one of the most easy to remember names in the NFL, a player literally named Jihad.

Derwin James is going to win DROY.

Their rookie pick, Leonard, is off to a better start than almost anyone in the league. He absolutely dominated Washington.

This will unboubtably be controversial, as FF is a beloved anchor of this board.

However, it is specifically a “Chicago” sports fan board (thus the moniker).

So I personally would appreciate FF posting his pro-Packer, anti-Bear crap in a “Packers” thread.

The CFMB should be pro-Chicago in the Bears threads. Meatballs that can argue, without a Packers bias.

FF, go the the GBMB for your clearly biased pro-Packer opinions.

Disagree.

No one around here hates the Packers more than I do. But this place is what it is because of all the personalities that make up this dysfunctional family of ours.

A big part of the fun is the back and forth with Packer/Bear fans...Cubs/Sox fans...Everyone/Dicaro

So while FF is an idiot, he is our idiot. And it isnt like he doesn't have "Chicago" connections. He is a Bulls fan. He just happens to be dead wrong during football season.

Roquan can easily beat out Derwin James. Bears are going to be batting a lot of balls in the air and forcing a ton of fumbles, not to mention blitzing is going to be absolutely piss easy with Mack attracting so much attention, so Roquan is going to put up some numbers in the sack and INT department. Derwin James will get some of that too when San Diego gets Bosa/Ingram going but they apparently aren't getting Bosa back until October and it'll take a couple games for that to really take hold. The Bears defense is clicking right now and it wont be long before Roquan, who is all over the field, starts finding himself as the man there when an opportunity for a big turnover is created.

I'm not even saying Roquan will be a better player than Derwin James, but the award outlook is definitely in Roquan's favor.

Denzel Ward though...dude is just elite. Was elite the instant he stepped on an NFL field. If voters have any sense they are going to have to give the award to the NFL's newest shutdown CB.

I know Ward gave up a TD against the Saints, but whatever. Its not the end of the world, he's still looked fantastic out there.

It makes the yearly Packers flameout more enjoyable.

Yeah, I knew I’d get shot down. And FF is an intelligent poster. I would just like the Bears threads to be discussed by Bears fans, whether we agree or not. A Packers fan just brings a bias that makes them subjectively hate anything Bears, this less enjoyable to argue with.

I don’t hate the Bears. The Vikings and Cowboys are the only NFL teams I dislike. The league is a lot better when the Bears are good.

The way Packers fans like to needle Bears fans by saying "oh I don't hate Bears...no sir-ee no animus for Chicago" to dismiss the rivalry as historically one-sided...well that's how you know FF really hates the Bears the most. This is the way Packers fans nowadays like to rub it in Bears fans faces because the Fox/Trestman years and NFCCG have driven the Bears to such a low point. But the hate is still there, pulsating beneath this cool and collected veneer, and just wait until the Day of the End comes from the QB who's body is really starting to come apart. Then it'll be real again and all this fake magnaminity will be gone literally overnight.

no, it's actually like the way new orleans fans are with texas. louisianans are like bears fans and texans are like packers fans. the animosity is mostly one-sided, coming from the team that historically has the worse record. just like philly vs. dallas or philly vs. new york.

or, for some reason, white sox fans and cubs fans.

And Cubs/White Sox is a cultural rivalry between the city and collar counties.

They’re all cultural rivalries. All of the fans sound the same when they trash talk or bemoan the teams.

Cubs/White Sox just happens to come from the same town. And the rivalry didn’t really exist until this century.

I don't know what to tell you America. I just have never hated the Bears, even when they were competitive with GB like 2008-2010ish. The rivalry hit a low point with the Trestman/Mel Tucker years and 42-0 halftime leads and such and that really wasn't a lot of fun even as a GB fan. Next few years should be fun.

It's alright. I get it. A lot of Packers fans are this way. Truth be told I spent the morning thinking about the Bears and their direction and I'm not so sure things are going to be better the next few years. Bears would be an ugly, ugly 0-2 if not for Khalil Mack.

There are some reasons for optimism though. We'll see how they handle Tampa and Miami.

There is always going to be a rivalry in a town where two teams play the same sport. The success of the other fuels it. That's why the Cubs had to claim attendance championships for so long. They won it and now they mock the Sox for trying the same sort of long term tank that they did to win it after mocking them for NOT tanking before.
