This worries me a little. Good news is the Bears are 11th offensively on 3rd down. The Bears are also 3rd on defense and the Vikings are 18th on offense.

Defining stat: 25.7. The Vikings aren't far off from reaching the all-time mark for defensive efficiency on third down (25.2) that they set last season. This was written this week by a local columnist, and I don't agree with either point:

1) "They believe they should be competing for a Super Bowl this year, which is good, because in the fourth year of a rebuild, anything less than a Super Bowl would be a major disappointment."

My comment: There is no way that the expectation on this team in 2018 is Super Bowl or bust. This is a first year rookie coach and second year QB. I think there is a lot of room to be a satisfied fan short of a Super Bowl.

2) "They're riding a three-game win streak and they get a 5-3-1 Vikings team at Soldier Field that shouldn't pose a serious threat for a team that believes it's as good as the Bears think they are, and it's a game that could give them a big lead in the division."

My comment: Of course the Vikings are a serous threat. What kind of person places that level of expectations on the Bears where a good team like the Vikings is deemed to be another patsy ala the Bills?

I just hate columnists that set the Bears up to fail so they can write a nasty column post Vikings game should they lose. Or set a season expectation that is pure fantasy so they can rip the franchise at the end of the season. The Bears deserve a ton of criticism for their past few decades of ineptitude. But this is not the year to have that level of vitriol because they have made mostly good personnel decisions and performed well on Sundays.

The Bears have played like a great team so far though. I know they have some tough losses but their point differential on the season, which is supposedly a better indicator of future success than record, has them as a top tier elite team next to the Rams, Chiefs, and Saints.
