going to be franchise tagged.

It isn't going to be so easy to kill Parkey, is it?

No doubt. The 49'ers aren't doing the Bears any favors.

Parkey is done, the decision has already been made.

Ya think Gould would've signed for a discount as a free agent with at least one desperate team in the Bears for a kicker and few others looking to upgrade?

There was a Yahoo article on Gould today that did not say he had been franchised by the Niners. That was still open.

The Bears are going to make a deal, deal (Kelly's Heroes reference) to get him, because they know how important he is. It's no brainer.

The thread is about Robbie Gould likely being franchised which is still being reported everywhere.

Hey, if the Bears want to drop 2-3 times the league high payroll in the kicker position in a year where their cap space is limited I think that decision is worthy of heavy scrutiny. I'd rather have extra playmakers who help a FGA become an XPA

I think they probably do that if Parkey didn't go on the Today show. It became toxic. It's like Sosa-lite: you can't bring him back after that.

I was referencing the " not going to be easy to cut Parky"

It was very easy, I think they'll bring in a handful of UFA and keep the best.

Agreed. It was like he dared them to cut him. Maybe he really wanted no part of going back to that locker room.

That would be fine if the UFA was either more productive or extremely cheap but you are most likely getting a Connor Barth type whose effective salary in terms of the cap is going to be 8-9 million

Lt Dan could be more productive than Parkey was this season. I can almost guarantee that the Bears kicker in 2019 will not have 10 misses.

And because he will likely be making peanuts in terms of salary, if the guy does have a few misses early on, you cut him and bring in the next guy. That couldn't happen with Parkey because of his contract.

Not only did Parkey suck and was happy to get any contract, Pace paid him a ridiculous amount of money for a kicker. It's really an indictment on Pace.

Yes, that would be expected from the Bears. But even more Bears-esque is that they don't have a first round draft pick in the first place, because nine times out of ten they don't.

I think they should wait the market out on a K, at least until after the draft.

If the top college K is around as a UDFA or late 7th, pounce. If not, there are a few veterans out there with a couple of years of tread left on the tires

Parkey will likely go someplace else and be just fine. There's no way he can be as bad as he was...or hit all those uprights.

I agree with dolphin. Wait it out or get someone late round.

There's a reason that goof has been on 4 teams in 5 years

https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/source-49ers-showing-interest-free-agent-kicker-stephen-gostkowski

queue the undertaker gif.... gould to the bears not 100% dead yet

Quote:
The 49ers placed the franchise tag on kicker Robbie Gould, but the team is also showing interest in New England Patriots free agent Stephen Gostkowski, a league source told NBC Sports Bay Area on Tuesday.

Gould and Gostkowski rank Nos. 2 and 3 all-time in NFL field-goal accuracy at 87.745 and 87.381, respectively, behind Justin Tucker. Gould is 36, while Gostkowski is 35.

Gould has not signed his franchise tender, and Gostkowski remains unsigned as a free agent.

The 49ers and Gould appear to be at odds over the team’s decision to lock him up for this season on the franchise tag. Gould has made it clear he wanted to be able to explore his options as a free agent, especially the possibility of a return to Chicago, where he played his first 11 NFL seasons.

But the 49ers restricted Gould's ability to choose where he will kick in 2019 with the one-year, $4.971 million tag. Gould originally signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the 49ers on the first day of free agency in 2017.

General manager John Lynch said recently at the NFL owners meeting the 49ers worked hard on a multi-year extension for Gould before placing the franchise tag on him in March. Lynch said he wanted to continue to have discussions with Gould’s representatives. But negotiations appeared to be at an impasse.

“That’s not dead, either,” Lynch said. “I think the franchise gives you some flexibility in that the player is a part of you, but we’re still trying to figure it out and (will) probably take another go at trying to figure this out. It takes everyone wanting to do that. We’ll see if that’s a reality or not.”

Gostkowski has played his entire 13-year career with Patriots after replacing Adam Vinatieri at the beginning of the 2006 season. He has appeared in all 200 regular-season games, as well as 28 postseason games. Gostkowski is a four-time Pro Bowl selection, a two-time All-Pro, and a three-time Super Bowl champion.
