I know most of you are gonna flame me for this post, but seriously.... Andy Dalton is only guaranteed 17 million next year (NONE of which is guaranteed, and would only cost us 8 million against the cap space this year. Our cap space is sitting at 18 million).

We could have traded for him easily for a 3rd rounder, possibly even a 4th rounder.

Flame me all you want, I think trading for Dalton was the only way to salvage our season, and he would have cost us barely nothing.

I can hear everyone saying "we need to save our draft picks". F-that. I would easily give up a 4th rounder for Dalton.

IMO, this is just a sign of how stupid the head office is by sticking with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky.

I don't think the season is salvageable. It's too late in the game to insert a QB who doesn't know this offense.

He doesn't know the offense and isn't that much of an upgrade.

There aren't many in season qb trades that work out. I think you need an offseason to have it work out.

What was the last successful in season trade of a starting quarterback?

don't think you'd call it successful (at least not for the Raiders) but the Bengals traded Carson Palmer to Hue Jackson's Raiders. Bengals not big on mid-season trades. Palmer had been riding the pine behind rookie Dalton. Palmer had to threaten to retire and leave the Bengals empty-handed to get Mike Brown to trade him.

Exactly.

An experienced, NFL caliber, veteran who knows how to play QB who doesn't know this offense, or a college level clueless amateur, who has no idea how to play QB who doesn't know this offense.

Rather have this guy putting aside the previous good arguments that it is too late in the season anyway.

Because Dalton sucks. It wouldn't make sense to trade an asset for a bum.

I'd assume we finish with 7 maybe 8 wins. That should be around a 15th draft pick. We've gotta draft a QB in the first 3 rounds.

Which translates into roughly pick 45-50th overall, since we have no 1st round pick.

45-50th can still land a QB, next year we should have Mitch and two rookies( one draftee and one UFA) in an open competition.

Agree with the latter half, except I would rather see Chase Daniel and 2 rookies.

Why trade for a QB under a coach who might be coaching his LAST 9 games?

Pace (who frankly should not be retained either) has surely learned a valuable lesson (right?): Get the coach in place BEFORE the QB.

The real question is why weren't the Bears sellers? It takes a franchise several years to recover from missing on a QB and many of the key defensive players will be too old in a few years to be of much help. They really need picks to address shortcomings at QB, TE, OT, and OLB, gonna have to draft these positions due to lack of cap room after Mack trade.

I'd move Floyd for a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Trevathan, Ha-Ha.

Even if it is a 5th or 6th rounder, still draft capital and provides cheap depth to the roster.

Floyd and Ha Ha will need to start padding stats, look for more Zach Lavine/Patrick Kane type "my turn" play where they abandon the play call and look for sacks/interceptions, happens all the time when team is out of it and games no longer mean anything. Look for WR's to become increasingly vocal as inept QB play costs them numbers as well. With the current situation the team will have to use a ton of UFA's next year. This is all the result of whiffing on a QB and and then doubling down by trading away draft capital because you foolishly think you are in win now mode.

That is HaHa's default mode. dolphin will be excited when he finishes with 4 interceptions on a 5-11 team while Amos has 2 on a 13-3 team.
