I am just comparing some stats right now:

After 7 games in 2018 -
Jordan Howard - 90 carries, 11 receptions
Tarik Cohen - 38 carries, 29 receptions (4.5 yards per carry, 10.2 yards per catch).

After 7 games in 2019 -
David Montgomery - 98 carries, 15 receptions
Tarik Cohen - 24 carries, 32 receptions (2.3 yards per carry, 5.8 yards per catch)

Simple question. There may be an obvious answer, which I am not seeing, but: Why is Tarik Cohen less involved in the offense this year? He was such a weapon last year and now seems to be virtually invisible.

Gadget plays don't work when you have no offensive weapons.

Expand please. How exactly we made "gadget plays" last year vs. this year?

should be doing more monty and cohen on the field at the same time. let cohen work the short middle and flats... would be more helpful if you actually had the threat of throwing deep to open up short passing game... but we know mitchell is limited in his ability to read a defense, see open receivers, throw the ball accurately to open receivers

Pretty easy explanation, teams have figured out how to defense Nagy's offense. Many of Cohen's big plays last year happened when defenses covered him with a LB who he could easily beat in man to man coverage. This year teams play zone with nickle personnel almost exclusively against the Bears, they keep Cohen in front of them and there are no lanes to run. The league adjusted and Nagy did not. Could also point out the his QB does not recognize the mismatches and even if he does he over/under throws missing big plays, but that all get back to Nagy not adjusting his roster after the league identified the weak link in his offense.

How many defensive players scored while on offense for "us" last year?

Trey Burton was an actual part of the offense. Jordan Howard was a consistent running back. Teams didn't have a season's worth of tape on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky or a Matt Nagy led offense.

Defenses now adjusted to the Bears, and the Bears lost a good, dependable running back. The offense is one dimensional, and that one dimension is below average.

You see Cohen's much lower yards per carry and yards per catch, but you want him to get even more balls? Defenses will focus on him even more?

Not necessarily my thought process. I was debating if his lower yards per catch and carry were CAUSED by his lower usage. Backs typically produce more when you give them the ball more often. Not saying my thought process is correct, but it was an idea.

The truth is that Nagy cannot get Cohen the ball in space worth a shit. HE couldn't do it last year and this year is even worse. He doesn't have a clue on how to use Cohen. It is obvious. I think Cohen is an incredible talent but he needs some space.
