Think the basketball player who’s never played football before was a better signing.

Who is this guy?? Wasn't he signed and released numerous times from the Vikings practice squad and then disappeared??

Biggest CFL to NFL contract given in the history of the game and there were nine other teams that wanted him. This isn't like signing that LB as camp fodder last year.

6'1", 200 with a 4.52 40. Big, with good but not elite speed.

College QB at Indiana and Illinois State who converted to CB for the pros. Undrafted and spent a year on the Vikings practice squad before moving to Canada. Vikings were one of the teams that wanted him back

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUGQoYoYJvc

looks like a willing tackler and had 10 INT in two years of CFL, including 7 last year

Amukamara is gone. I personally like him a lot but you cannot have 3 INT in 3 years making $10 million. Bears forced turnovers were down this year and I think Pace is looking to change that with guys who can make those game changing plays.

basically the same speed and dimensions as Prince but 4 years younger and probably 7+ million cheaper

Can you really just plug a CFL guy in as the starting corner? He may be great but I'd be looking to back him up with a veteran for insurance. Maybe they see that with Skrine and Shelly moving into the nickel. Shelly showed in pre season and was a camp darling but I didn't see much in his limited time in season.

I doubt Prince would come back in a backup role. Someone will give him a starting gig, even at 31. He didn't look finished last year.

Surprised this guy was so overlooked by the Vikings. He was signed and released to the practice squad several times by Minnesota a few years ago.

I don't know if you could sign a guy in August from the CFL and plug him in as a starter. This dude is going to have 8 months of OTAs and prep, on top of a training camp.

if shefty's report on (likely highest CFL to NFL compensation) has merit, then he's taking prince's job

Roberson was a freaky good athlete in college. Fun guy to watch.

I like it.

I already wrote that. He IS taking Prince's job.

Roberson's money isn't what is determining that when you consider the previous biggest contract they are using as a comparison was 4 years and $4.9 million. It hasn't been reported but could it be much more than 3-4 years at 2 million per?

It's Prince's contract that is driving the change at $10 million next year.

Competition for Tolliver for CB spot opposite Fuller. Where will they spend the cap money they save by cutting Prince?

Looks like a good move. 9M for Prince is way to much. Bye. Still need more depth at CB though.

You have to love how in the NFL a guy can come out of absolute nowhere to be sought after by about a quarter of the league and nobody even knows who he is or that he's on so many team's radar until after he's signed. This would never happen in baseball or basketball, sports where prospects are hyper-scrutinized from very young ages.

They clearly signed this guy to start and play at a high level. It's a bit of a gamble, but the right kind of gamble for the Bears to make. A cheap starter who doesn't cost a top one-hundred draft pick is the absolute ideal. Now they have $9m more to play with and some intriguing possibilities are starting to open up.

I forgot about Tolliver. I think he showed up ok last year. I'm comfortable with Roberson and Tolliver battling for the spot.

and, of course, I still hope Denmark becomes something from the practice squad

It happens all the time in baseball, Altuve comes to mind.

I'm not talking about unheralded guys breaking out when getting to the show. That's different.

If there were a guy outside the MLB ecosystem who was drawing interest from a third of baseball he would be pretty high profile. We would be aware of it. This Roberson thing came out of nowhere, he was not on a single top-fifty free agent list yet he seems to have drawn the same type of interest as a high-tier (certainly not top/elite tier though) free agent.

I saw something about him a couple of weeks ago.

Toliver sucks. They didn't throw at him one week. The following week he was exposed. I haven't liked Toliver since he's been here and I want him to go away ASAP.

He was on the Vikings practice squad in 2016 several times after being released and re-signed. Goes to the CFL for a couple seasons and now all of a sudden he is a huge name. Weird.
