Hoping he burned the bridge back to the Bears.

He dropped a nuclear bomb on that bridge.

He won't be coming back here.

He hates Matt Nagy.

Yeah he really gave his body and soul to the Bears and they kinda fucked him.

He kind of low-key sucked though. Outside of maybe one year, his name got him further than his play ever did.

Think so? I thought he was solid as hell until that (shoulder?) injury.

He was over loved because he was media friendly with a Bears attitude. He said what the media wanted to hear and they (along with many fans) ate it up.

Wasn’t he voted to pro bowl by coaches and colleagues? Before fans could affect it?

I don’t recall the circumstances, just that he was an alternate (which puts 2 of his 3 pro bowl nods on par with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky’s pro bowl appearance).

To be clear, I don’t think he was ever bad. I just don’t think he’d have been a marked improvement over the Whitehair, Daniels, Mustipher interior they already have, even in his prime.

He was solid. Never thought he was great. If he was great, he should have been a great tackle. At his size and weight he should have been a great tackle. But he wasn't. Cuz they tried him there and quickly moved him back to guard. Tackles mean more than guards on an NFL team.

Decent to good guard. So what? We've got decent to good guards right now.

Plus he likes to talk a lot and act like he's a bigger or more meaningful player than he actually is. So let somebody else sign him. He'll be on Injured reserve by week 2.

Yeah. One year I think. Then he was always hurt.

Look, he was fine. I just don't think great guards win you Super Bowls. Many teams have won the Super Bowl with average guards. So I don't care about him.

The fact that a stupid guard was so popular here pissed me off. Cuz it meant we didn't have other good players.

Our current guards and center are actually pretty decent to good. It's the tackles that we need to improve on.

Call me insane, but I'm just one of those guys who believes that if you have great players on your team, regardless of the position, it makes your team better.

That's just me though, maybe I'm fucked in the head.

he all but spelled it out with Parko and Spiegs that he was coming back. Sounded for all the world like he was trying to rebuild bridges with the Bears.

They have no money so that ain't happening...

He'd probably be relatively cheap since he was out a year. And before that injured for 2 or 3 years.

But the main point is we just don't need him. We need tackles like I said. And he's probably gonna suck or be injured again at this point in his career. Cuz he sucked the last year with the Bears before he got hurt.

Towards the end yeah he wasn’t good anymore imo.. but his 1st couple years he was a beast. I forget which year it was but I remember a game against Detroit during Suh’s ridiculous run on their D-line and the Bears went 1-1 Long Vs Suh and he absolutely ate Suh’s lunch that game. It got so bad Detroit moved Suh to the other side of the line lol. Up til that point I’d never seen anyone man handle Suh. Even now with his age I’ve rarely seen anyone do it.

Side note.. I’m not a small dude myself (6’3 over 200 pounds) but 2 Bears I’ve seen/met in person that made an impression on me were Julius Peppers and Kyle Long. Long made other big dudes around him look average when they stood next to him. He was an enormous human being at that time.

Fair, and reading it back, I’ve been all over the place in this thread.

I always come back to how bad he was post-injury and that his combo of size/athleticism was a waste on the interior. That prob overshadows how good he was at times early in his career.

I’d also say it’s fair that after the injuries started mounting up on him he became a detriment to the team. His body didn’t hold up well to NFL punishment and his play when he was actually out there those last couple years reflected that. I liked Long as a player but injuries changing trajectories in the league can’t be denied.

I think any of us would be lying if we said he looked good those last couple years.

It would have been cool to have Howie's kid on the team but I didn't think he'd be able to stay healthy so I was glad when we passed.
