Those numbers don't include Gary's deal

Hopefully, he can finally get 10 sacks.

Ryan Poles overpaid for Sweat two times. Gave away a late 1st Round pick + paid him more money (per season) than the 2018 Khalil Mack contract.

I hate to defend Poles, but 2018 numbers aren't relevant. Thanks Biden

Seems like a lot of money but I’m fine with it.

If it’s an overpay, it re-raises the question of why give a 2nd and the huge contract if they could’ve just won a bidding war in FA.

I don't have any personal knowledge of Sweat. Still, if I'm basing my opinion on what the masses are saying, everyone in the NFL would prefer Sweat over Young, even before you review the medicals.

He was going to sign with Atlanta AFTER they traded for him.

Good. They had to sign him. I am not going to criticize Poles for helping the lines. They had to address the lines.

Lets hope he is entering his prime and will be a force on that line the next 4 years.

Billings seems fine too. It will be nice if he can hit on one of these young guys and find a cost effective veteran leader like Quinn was.

So when he first got here it was “ hey man I just got here man I don’t know what’s gonna happen with the contract”

4 days later he signs for 100 million

I guess throwing enough money at a person can make a decision whether or not youll like it here pretty quickly.

Yeah, getting $80M guaranteed can make a guy fall in love quickly.

More likely he agreed to terms through his agent before they traded for him.

He's getting the same money as Gary

At least Bears fans will admit their player is overpaid meanwhile Pecker Nation thinks they got steal of the century in Gary

That’s the issue with poor drafting, you’re going to have to overpay for FAs. The only question was how much they were going to overpay for Sweat or the next guy.

I don't have much knowledge of him either. All I know is that he's played with 3 Pro Bowlers on the defensive line since he entered the league and he now makes more money than any of them.

Signing your own guy is a bit different than trading a high 2nd rd pick AND paying him big bucks. Gary is also 2 yrs younger and a better pass rusher. Again, I know you'll never admit that he is actually good.

PRESSURE ISN’T EVERYTHING: PASS-RUSH WIN RATE
However, pass-rush productivity presumes that pressure is everything when determining the best pass-rushers. Fundamentally, though, if we only look at pressures, we’re judging pass-rushers on something they cannot control — how quickly the ball comes out.

You can have two identical play calls on offense, and the ball can come out at two very different times. In one instance, it’s released at 2.5 seconds, and the quarterback is free of pressure. In the other, it’s released at 3.0 seconds, and the quarterback is taken down. In both these scenarios, the pass-rusher may have beaten the pass-blocker at the same time, but on one occasion, he is rewarded with the stat and on the other, he is not.

So, we started collecting a data point called “BD,” or beaten defender. In its rawest form, it allows us to look at how successful a pass-rusher is at beating his man.

PASS RUSH WIN %
1 Myles Garrett 32.5
2 Rashan Gary 31.8
3 Nick Bosa 28.3
4 David Onyemata26.8
5 Trey Hendrickson25.6
6 Aaron Donald 25.3
7 Micah Parsons 23.1
8 D Lawrence 23
9 Josh Uche 22.9
10 Dexter Lawrence22.2

Sweat is also way more durable so there goes your "youth" theory

How about you admit that Gary is actually a very good player, and then we can have a reasonable sports discussion.

Yes, when you apply fantasy stats, such as sacks he didn't get or games he didn't play

You know how you really win a pass rush? You sack the qb

Sounds like the Bears have the worst of both worlds--a guy who infrequently wins his matchups, and almost never gets a sack on those rare occasions when he does.

$100 million + a high second round pick.

Let's see how this deal looks in another year.

Will it be better or worse than the Claypool trade?

A lot of money for a guy who doesn’t get near the QB often enough. Poles has no idea what he’s doing. Like Pace he’s flinging shit at the wall hoping something sticks because he doesn’t have a real plan in place.

That said, once he made that trade he was pot committed anyway so this was almost a forgone conclusion.. and Sweat had all the leverage too so the money isn’t as big a surprise.

I get that Poles needs to start adding talent, so I'm not judging until we see how the defense looks, but hes spending a lot of money on a guy who hasn't proven much. We'll see.

Seems Poles learned that the hard way last offseason, he blinked on a few guys and other teams quickly swooped in and made deals while he was trying to stick to an odd budget concept, think he's learning quickly that the fire gets very warm on your backside if you don't win.

Would think they move on from Whitehair and Jackson, which would open up a portion of the cap space you lost in Sweat deal.

Also seems like they’re done with Fields meaning there won’t be a massive QB contract incoming either.
