2014++ QB Prospects Average Time To Throw (in seconds) When Clean vs Pressured...The College Years:

Image

Clean (along the x-axis ) probably more significant than a scrambling QB extending a busted play with his legs.

Caleb Williams is 5th slowest to throw, or 5th longest time to throw among all qualifying college QB's this season.

It's YMCA ball. You can do it in college. NFL is timing.

The best way to scout these guys (and any position really) is to actually watch them play football. All these graphs, pie charts, and algorithms everyone is trying to come up with is clouding actual scouting.

Poles for example seems to prefer the ‘athletic’ chart (PAF I believe) approach to scouting which hasn’t really paid off yet. There’s nothing wrong with using stuff like this as extra information but.. watching games/film should always be the #1 way to analyze and scout imo

pff also broke down the pressures by whether they were (more/mostly) attributable to 0-line failure or whether the QB holding the ball too long or not maintaining the pocket generated the pressure situation. Caleb Williams leads in the latter category(ies). Approximately 1 out of 3 of his pressure drop-backs is due to Williams holding the ball too long or breaking pocket on his own and moving into pressure.

between these numbers and dude crying after games and what not, doesn't seem like a good bet to succeed at the next level. But, yeah, you watch Williams games and it's hard not to be wowed.

Dave Duerson was listening to that, so I don't recommend it.

How do you think that the two way ability of Fields to run or throw would factor into the analytics? In his last game, he rushed for over 100 yards and threw for just under 200 yards. You can say the same thing about Mahomes and Hurt, right?

Mahomes is a half-second faster getting rid of the ball than Fields in that graphic.

You don’t need a chart like this to see that he holds on to the ball too long, walks himself into pressure at times, and cries after losses.. these are all things you can learn about him by watching him.

I’m not a pro scout, I’m assuming none of us are, but I am of the opinion that too many people psych themselves out of what they’ve actually seen in games with these charts and things like the scouting combine and how these guys look running 40 times and so on.

Trusting the tape should be the #1 thing. The rest should be icing on the cake or food for thought.

Lastly, I’m not commenting specifically on Williams, this is my opinion across the board for all prospects.

Personally I think that drafting another unproven rookie quarterback is not the best idea for the Bears. Not when they have a good roster right now and with another big time haul of prospects and free agents, the Bear's should compete for the division and beyond. They do not to set their time table back developing another college quarterback. I say press on with Fields and Bagent. But for God's sake put some coaching behind them and improve the offensive line and receiving accordingly.

Are the standings I'm looking at backwards? These show the Bears at 3-8, which puts them 29th out of 32 teams?

To be fair, he said the Bears have a "floor" of 9 wins. Still doable!

He had two posts. One was 10 wins.

Yeah. Somewhere around there. I thought that the defense was going to be better and that the coaching staff was also. So what?
