Best rookie QB season I've seen as a Bears fan. 20 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He beat the Packers, should have had two more wins if not for coaching malfeasance and who knows what happens in the Detroit OT game that didn't go to OT for more coaching malfeasance.

He never quit or pouted or stopped taking sacks.

I'll still always have a soft spot for (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky's second season but I think Caleb Williams can even surpass that one next year.

Jay Cutler's best season as a Bear based on rating:
243 yards per game, 64% completion percentage, 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 92.3 rating
208 yards per game, 62.5% completion percentage, 20 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 87.8 rating

Of course, neither can compete with what (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky did his second year, but surprisingly close to the best Cutler ever was here.

Astonishing that anyone can't be optimistic that Caleb's worst year quite possibly could be his rookie year and in that he is nearly walking past the Bears' giants.

Yup, the Bears have not exactly had giants at the QB position, not a real high bar to reach.

Do wonder what happens next year if he struggles early in the year, he will not be the new coaches guy, so a brutal start next season may get us a Bryce Young type early benching.

The NFL quarterbacking position has come a long way. Bob Griese is in the HOF.

Some fucker threw 43 TDs this year and here we are, waxing eloquently about Jay Cutler and the 4th best rookie QB in 2024.

It's cool the Bears got a guy finally, will make Bears Packers games more fun going forward. With the right coaching hire Caleb can still reach Jordan Love's level too.

The hope is Caleb is elite like Love and then gets paid like it. An elite expensive QB is better than QB purgatory.

He's much better than Cousins who got benched recently. Like I predicted last year, he's somewhere between the 5th and 10th best QB in the league.

He's better than all the guys you listed except for Allen, Lamar, Mahomes, and maybe Burrow I could see an argument for. You seem to think whoever has better WRs than him is better than him but that's not really how it works. If Darnold was better than Love why is he on his 4th team already? You just think he is because he has Justin Jefferson

Darnold may be a one year wonder but the answer is mostly "Jets, Carolina, and then a backup in SF".

There isn't any way you can think Love is better than Baker Mayfield any more.

You are just too dependent on EPA like it erases a 41 touchdown season.

If Darnold was better than Love he would have elevated the Jets and Carolina.

Baker's having a great year, but it's also an outlier year. He has a 7.2% TD rate this year, Love's is 5.9% TD rate this year. However, Baker's career TD rate is 5.0%, Love's is 5.5%. So I would need to see a bit more from Baker before saying he's better because if you look at their career averages so far Love's numbers are better than Baker's pretty easily.

Speaking of outlandish opinions, care to make the argument Derek Carr is better than Love like you just suggested? I don't think there's a single Saints or NFL fan alive that would agree with you so curious what that case looks like.

On topic -agreed for the most part. Best arm talent we’ve had since Cutty but like Jay he has some things to work on. Things that I’m convinced will iron themselves out with the right coaching.. coaching I’m not convinced the Bears are competent enough to hire

There comes a point where maybe the Jets and Panthers are actually bad organizations and it isn't the fault of one player. But he's also only 27. It's not out of the question that he simply improved from his rookie year.

So the argument is that Baker Mayfield wasn't as good 5-7 years ago as Love is now?

I believe I said they were in a similar zone. Carr was having a quality season before getting injured. It's at least a discussion between Carr and Love.
