Both hires are solid. Randal El provides Ben with a guy he’s already used to working with and Harris brings a pretty good pedigree with him having helped develop a couple of ‘All Pros’ in Dallas.

Still waiting for that Dennis Allen hire tho, if it’s ever going to happen. To me that’s the key hire here -DC

Most alarming thing I’ve heard about a rookie quarterback since Josh Rosen. I have no idea how people just treated this fact with such a shrug, like it was just some quirky fact about Thomas Brown getting promoted.

why is Harris switching from DB coach to passing coordinator? Dallas fans seem to attribute a lot of DB development to Harris and he played the position.

He is still coaching defense.

I agree.

Allen should hold out for everything he wants.

They just let his footwork be shit the whole year because they were too afraid to correct him. Wonder why his accuracy downfield was shit?

Don't even get me started! There's 2 Passing Game Coordinators, one on offense and one on defense. Even though the defense never passes the ball or has a passing game to coordinate.

The team is also interviewing Denver Broncos tight ends coach Declan Doyle for the position. Doyle has been the Broncos tight ends coach for two seasons and before that spent four seasons as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints.

NFL Network reported the Bears interviewed Bo Hardegree for the job as well. Hardegree, 40, was an offensive assistant for the Bears in 2015 on John Fox’s staff and was quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2016-18 where he worked with Johnson. Hardegree was quarterbacks coach for the Tennessee Titans last season after two years with the Las Vegas Raiders as quarterbacks coach and interim offensive coordinator.

Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork is also being interviewed for the offensive coordinator job, according to CBS. Woolfork, 35, has been with the Cardinals the last two seasons after two years with the Cleveland Browns.

Randle-El, Harris, Barrett, Shaw...DEI hires up and down the line. Don't like that one bit.

We need DOGE to look into the Bears Organization with a fine-tooth comb.

Dennis Allen likes to mix up coverages, will be interesting to see if he can coach up the DB's who often looked lost in zone coverage under the vanilla looks that Eberflus used.

Think they would like to move on from Edmunds who looked lost in coverage and looked disinterested against the run last year.

You are bringing in coaches that will require a lot more engagement from the players, could see several of the guys that fit the Poles athletic, but non-productive mold launched quickly by the new coaching staff.

Seems like a Generational coaching staff to me.

I suppose few wanted to be oc under a guy who is clearly going to be calling plays. I would have preferred an old guy who has been a head coach to be a mentor on the head coaching side of the job, but how many of those guys can you have on staff?

A bit odd.

Allen has been linked to Johnson since his hiring. The two had never met, Johnson said, but Allen worked with Lions head coach Dan Campbell in New Orleans.

OC's dad is the alleged racist strength coach from Iowa that got fired a few years ago. Bears back to a white HC, OC, and DC. Thanks Trump!

I think David Shaw is a very good coach and would be a good addition to the coaching staff.

Interesting to read Johnson talking about how he cannot wait to get a good O line coach in the building, yet another nail in the coffin for good old Matt Eberflus, but also yet another indictment of Poles.

Seems Ben Johnson is in a hurry to put together his staff because he knows there will be some heavy lifting needed to get non-Poles evaluations of the roster, look for several vets to be launched on defense as several of the looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane dudes that Poles tossed FA paper at will not fit in with the new DC who likes smarter defensive guys that play with discipline.

I don't think there's going to be a defensive overhaul. Maybe some changes to better fit Allen's scheme, but this is a defense that needs to be enhanced, not redone.

The offensive line is the key to any sustained success to what Ben Johnson wants to do. They need to upgrade significantly.

Odd hire to say the least. Got Doug Pederson fired twice and is credited with not developing Trevor.

The only positive thing you can say about this hire is that it probably shouldnt affect things too much.

I'd be interested to know what the job actually entails. Ben Johnson is presumably still calling plays. He has an OC to do the rest. Is this guy basically making sure the players understand the passing plays?

He’s in a role where he may not be allowed to speak to the players. Could be useful to have the guy advising the other coaches so they have a clear idea of what not to do.

I think that's more on the positional coaches. I believe his job is mostly giving input on ideas/schemes for the passing game that I would assume Ben will ignore.

Maybe it's his job to tell him he shouldn't have a WR throwing a long pass at a crucial juncture in a playoff game.
