I hate to interrupt all this Mike North-esque Kyle Orton love, but does anybody remember how brutal he was at passing the ball when he was playing? Remember the 5 interception game vs. Cincinnati? And at the time the Bears had a decent running game, right? Now, with the run game so horrible, does anybody really expect he will do a better job than Griese or Grossman in getting the ball downfield?
The season is done so it really doesn't matter who plays, but to expect Orton to play consistently better than the other two is just unrealistic.
shhh....dont let Boilermaker Rick hear you.
I have not made one post saying that Kyle Orton should be playing right now. I still think Griese has a chance and 9-7 can make the playoffs.
I have said all along that Kyle Orton will get another chance at being a starting QB in the league whether it is with the Bears or not. I think Orton will have a successful career but I would prefer it if he was given a full preseason to work with the first team. That probably won't happen.
What is pretty stupid is people who bring up how Orton played two years ago as a rookie who was projected to sit the bench for the season and improve on the flaws in his game(no college experience under center for one thing). I don't know if Kyle Orton is currently good enough to be a starting NFL QB but I understand the history of rookie QB's in the league and many of the best of all time were not good.
As soon as the Bears lose their 8th game and are obviously out of the playoffs then it is Kyle Orton time. The only other reason to pull Griese after the next game is if he continues to play as terrible as he did on Sunday.
If Griese keeps on playing bad, then let him go at the end of the season, bring in a veteran backup and draft a QB and let all three fight it out for the starting job. None of this hand the starting job to a rookie who did nothing to deserve it like they did with Grossman.
