Michael Flatley said yesterday he was "very pleased" with the judgment awarded to him in the false rape claim case.
And he said he will to donate to charity any of the $11m (€ 7.5m) he ultimately recovers from exotic dancer Tyna Marie Robertson, who tried to extort money from him with the false claim.
The north Cork-based dancer said he now hopes his action in fighting the claim will help protect other celebrities from malicious, money-orientated claims.
"Ms Robertson tried to extort money from me by spreading these lies and the court sent a clear message that it will not tolerate these types of schemes."
He said he was always determined to fight the malicious claim -- warning that Robertson and her lawyer took on the wrong person.
Robertson's lawyer, Dean Mauro, has already been barred from practising for 12 months by the American Bar Association because of his involvement in the scheme.
Robertson had claimed she was the victim of a sexual assault in the plush Venetian Casino in Las Vegas in 2002.
Michael Flatley was visiting the casino to celebrate the Venetian's record-breaking acquisition of his 'Lord of the Dance' show from rival casino, New York-New York. However, when Nevada police began investigating her claims, Robertson refused to make a formal statement. It later transpired that, with her lawyer, she had offered to settle the matter and avoid publicity if the dancer paid her $30 million. It also emerged that she had levelled similar claims, again without success, against a Chicago doctor. However, Flatley immediately lodged a $100m count suit against Robertson and Mauro and reported the matter to the FBI.
Flatley has since settled an action against Mauro -- and the €7.5m judgment against Robertson will ensure that, if she ever secures a financial windfall in the future, the dancer will have a claim against that sum.
Paternity
Robertson, from Illinois, is currently suing the Chicago Bears football star, Brian Urlacher, in a high-profile paternity case.
It is unclear whether any money she receives in this matter will be affected by the Flatley award. Flatley's US legal team was led by Bert Fields and Ricardo Cestero of Greenberg Glusker, both of whom have acted for top Hollywood stars including Tom Cruise.
Michael Flatley intends to return to Ireland this week with his wife, Niamh, and son, Michael jnr.
The couple plan to spend their first Christmas with their new son at Castlehyde, the dancer's €50m mansion in north Cork.
