The NFL has fined Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher $20,000 for abusive conduct toward an official in Sunday's loss to Atlanta. A league spokesman described that conduct as "verbal abuse." Urlacher mouthed off to an official after a replay challenge of Tommie Harris' fumble in the second quarter allowed the Falcons to retain possession. Harris had recovered a Jerious Norwood fumble at the Bears' 23 but lost control of the ball and the Falcons recovered. Urlacher's subsequent penalty gave the ball to the Falcons at the 12-yard line and they ultimately kicked a field goal to make the score 9-0.
