Can he still walk? I am pretty sure he was on the PUP list all year last year. If they did sign him would they be looking for him to play RT? I dunno if he could pass a physical then I might be intersted.

Let's take a look at Jerry Kramer too. Way too old. Maybe Noah Jackson or Jiggs?

Wow really? Guess I should have done some research on that before I posted. But isn't that actually worse I seem to remember a revolving door of people battering Rams QB's last year.

I heard that Orlando did take a physical with the Bears...I'm not sure he's got much left in him anymore, but the Bears definitely need bodies for that awful offensive line they've got.

I'm just not sure where he fits.

Does he expect to play LT?

Can he make the transition to RT?

What about Shaffer, who they just signed?

What about Pace's injury history - how much does he have left?

That's the big question. You are not getting the elite left tackle. You are getting an aged player who trying to start at a new position.

I like the idea of him as a backup only. If he has anything in the tank he could be servicable for 4-5 games. As a full time starter to rely on, not worth the chances.
Maybe the idea is to bring him in to teach Williams. How to play, not to stay hurt that is

I don't think he'd sign here to become a backup. I don't even know if he'd sign here to compete for a job - I'm not sure if other teams have interest with a starting job still available.

Are you kidding? Sign Pace.

Say what you want about this guy, but hes still better than everyone on the Bears poorus offensive line put together.

Cup- Olin Kruetz wishes he was as good as a washed up Pace, in his prime.

This isn't the Pace from 5 years ago. There are legitimate questions now.

Yeah;
Question one- How pathetic is the Bears O-line that a half cripple is that much better than everone under contract, including a first round pick from last year?
Question two- How does this signing, which, even though Pace is done, not only upgrade the Bears line, but actually gives them a respected player who the noobs can possibly learn from, considering there isnt much there in terms of respectablility, and Kruetz is a complete moron.

Cup- A banged up Pace is better than the whole Bears offense with the exception of Forte.

I haven't seen our 1st round pick play yet so I'll reserve judgement. I'm also pretty confident a half cripple is "that much better than everyone under contract."

I do think a healthy Pace can contribute though.

I think I am falling into the supercup camp on this, especially because a signing starts to give some fuel to the Bears making a push for Cutler.

The SCORE reported this morning the Bears consider signing Pace a priority.

What does signing Pace have to do with Kreutz? Is he going to play center? Also check me if I am wrong here, but JSC was ok, but some are acting like losing him is the end of the world. Give Williams a shot a LT and if you sign Pace, put Pace at RT. We have to know if Williams is a long term solution there, putting Pace there only causes problems with develpment.

I heard something this morning that if Orlando Pace signs with the Bears, Chris Williams could be shifted to right offensive tackle with Pace staying on the left side...The Trib's Vaughn McClure, ESPN Radio's David Haugh & "The SCORE's" Zach Zaidman all mentioned that scenario today.

At least her mult is semi-entertaining and less annoying - I think she actually takes on a different personality with this mult - maybe she has MULTiple personalities - hah.

Wouldn't you want to have the younger/better athlete on the left side? Maybe from what the Bears have seen of Williams in practice they are worried about his ability to play at the most important position on the line.

that could be true...and not that bad. If the bears braintrust  determines Williams isnt the stud LT they want and he would be better on the right side...Im all for it.
Move williams over...put Pace in...and look at FA LTs

It's stopgap. You wouldn't expect any production beyond 2009, but it would solidify the line for next year. It would also allow any mid-round draft pick to basically redshirt for a year.

I'm with gd. I'm thinking if they do this deal they feel comfortable giving up their #1 and might take that shot at Cutler. Now I have a bad feeling that Cutler might come here and be crappy but that is a chance I'm willing to take.

I guess I just don't see how this makes a difference as far as the trade is concerned. Even if you didn't get Pace, you find some mediocre player to stick at RT for a year and get Cutler anyway. Pace is better than that, but I don't see how it changes the calculus.

And not to sound like Dan Bernstein, but you're not winning a Super Bowl with Orlando Pace at RT. I say that only because you're probably not winning one next year, and that's about all he has left in him. That still doesn't mean the signing would be bad, though.

If they don't get another lineman I would take it as a sign they aren't give up their draft picks so they will draft a OL and WR with the first 2 picks. If they acquire a lineman in FA they might be positioning themselves to give up that first round pick as part of a trade for Cutler.
