The Bears Defense will be much improved this year. Not beceuse the great Lovie Smith is now calling the Defensive plays, but rather the Bears have the 2nd easiest schedule in the NFL.

Herre is the schedule, with my W-L prediction:

9/13 at Green Bay 7:20 p.m. NBC W
9/20 PITTSBURGH 3:15 p.m. CBS L
9/27 at Seattle 3:05 p.m. FOX W
10/4 DETROIT Noon FOX W
10/11 BYE WEEK
10/18 at Atlanta 7:20 p.m. NBC L
10/25 at Cincinnati Noon FOX W
11/1 CLEVELAND Noon FOX W
11/8 ARIZONA Noon FOX W
11/12 at San Francisco 7:20 p.m. NFL W
11/22 PHILADELPHIA-* 7:20 p.m. NBC L
11/29 at Minnesota-* Noon FOX L
12/6 ST. LOUIS-* Noon FOX W
12/13 GREEN BAY-* Noon FOX W
12/20 at Baltimore-* Noon FOX L
12/28 MINNESOTA 7:30 p.m. ESPN W
1/3 at Detroit-* Noon FOX W

11 - 5

I'm seeing 9-7. If Defense improves maybe 11-5/10-6

No way Jimmy. The Bears were 9-7 last year with a tougher schedule & no QB.
This years easy schedule & the addition of Jay Cutler & Orlando Pace should add at least 2 wins.

I hope it's even better then that! Go Bears!
It seems like about 3 years since the season ended.

Anyone want to explain to me how they expect the Bears' Defensive Backs to be anything but bad? I mean, aside from make-believe prattle.

I suspect the offense will be uncharacteristically explosive, but the defense will be a sieve far too often for the offense to save them. <-- on the list of 'things never said about Chicago football'.

Don Tiny if the D-Line could actually display a pass rush, the def. backs will look a lot better. Chop 1 second of time that it takes to even "pressure" a QB & that will lead to more INC & INT's,hopefully.
So IF Tommie Harris is healthy, everyone else will come around.

Which only furthers my point: any defensive success revolves around a number of IF/THEN statements, most (if not all) of which are unlikely.

Don,
That is true. Let's face it,every NFL team has IF'S,especially where health is concerned.

Tommie Harris is the most overrated & overpayed player in the NFL, not to mention a complete tool. Why the Bears gave him huge money is beyond me.

Not if the DBs are still playing off their guys by 7-10 yards....

That is Lovies philosophy. Rather than play aggressive, he likes the DB's to play way off their Man, giving up the 5 yard catch, but not a TD. This is certainly a play it safe way of playing Defense, which we aren't used to in Chicago. My Son was a High School DB & his coach played the exact same way & it drove me nuts for 3 seasons.

Originally brought to town under the Vince Tobin era. If I'm not mistaken,Wanny also did this along with Dick Jauron. I might be wrong about Jauron, but TO caught 20 against the Bears one year.

First, your son's experience has approximately dick to do with the Bears or this discussion.

Second, Tampa-2 defense ... read about it sometime, paying attention to the role of the CB's (which I assume you meant to say above, since not a lot of safties play 'on their man' :? ....).

Third, what would you propose they do differently, either in coverage scheme or in (plausible) personnel moves?

Fourth, you were saying about Tommy Harris ...... ?
