Figured it will be the hot topic on sports radio today, so wanted to get a thread going to see what the experts here at CSFMB thought.

Do I think he saved his job? Yes, I think the McCaskey's were looking for some reason to not eat all that money and save from a disaster at Detroit, that's exactly what they got.

What they should have gotten was validation that this is a very poorly coached team. Clearly there appears to be some semblance of talent on the roster(reserved joy about Chris Williams) and their performance last night just was a microcosm for how inconsistent this team has been all year.

I don't think this win saved his job. Im sure the decision has already been made, and it will be announced at the end of the season. I really wouldn't be surprised by either outcome.

I think Ron Turner is going to fall on the grenade, and the team will also fire Babich (Although I am not really sure what he even does anymore).

If last nights game is the reason that Lovie stays than the Bears are a poorly run organization. They'll have 16 games in which to judge him and everyone else.

It would be different if the Bears had a run like the Titans did where they clearly elevated the play over the second half of the season.

This was simply a game where the Bears played out of their minds and took advantage of a wounded team. The Bears played very well but they would return to the below average team they are.

I think they played inspired in spite of the coachs not because of them. Its hard to believe the staff can take until week 16 to get you fired up like that. They probably had some rah rah players meeting where they said this is for pride, the hell with the coachs. I agree that this game did nothing for his future as the decision was already made before this week. I also didnt realize that the vikings were incapable of covering a kick, talk about starting with a short field.

In a way, yesterdays game reflelcted poorly on the coaching staff and their evaluation and player development skills. It appears that maybe your best wide receiver, Devin A, sat on the bench way to long and only got to contribute when an injuries took its toll. If Hester was healthy would Devin A even have seen the field?

And the Bears best left tackle was playing right tackle to start the season.

Last night's coaching matchup between Brad Childress and Lovie Smith was one for the ages. There was never any question to either team's play calling and their ability to manage the clock and trade game-changing decisions resulted in one of the best overtime grudge matches I have ever seen.

As for me, I saw all I needed to see with the management at the end of both halves, the team once again coming out of a time out with an illegal formation and an offsides penalty at the 2 in their own stadium.

I could definitely see that happening. This is especially true if they believe that there will be labor issues and a potential lockout.

Am I correct that coaches still get paid even if the players are on picket lines yelling at Rex Grossman when he's brought in as a scab? Can the Bears afford to pay Lovie and Cowher and not make any money?

I don't know if Lovie Smith necessarily saved his job last night with the Bears' thrilling OT win over the Vikings at Soldier Field to wrap up the 40th season of "Monday Night Football". At this point, reading between the lines based on what General Manager Jerry Angelo said before the Baltimore debacle, I tend to think that Lovie might want to update his resume, along with the likes of Offensive Coordinator Ron Turner, QB Coach Pep Hamilton, Offensive Line Coach Harry Heistand, WR Coach Darryl Drake, RB Coach Tim Spencer and Defensive Coordinator (By Title) Bob Babich. Those assistants are definitely on borrowed time, regardless of what happens to Smith. Thanks to Bears' President Ted Phillips, Lovie will get paid no matter what, thanks to NO BUYOUT clause in his contract.

Nas, you are half right. Jerry Angelo continues as General Manager of the Bears, but Mike Shanahan's the next head coach of the Washington Redskins...That's the indication from practically every NFL insider on the planet.

The team was impressive for one half and that was it. Once the game goes to overtime, the outcome is much more lucky/unlucky than the outcome of a game where a team wins by thirty points. This individual game shouldn't make any difference to the powers that be. Especially if they have feelers out to other head coaches and feel that they have a shot of landing one of the big names out there.

I don't think he did.

Who fires Lovie? Angelo, or higher up the chain. I get a weird feeling that Lovie gets fired, and Angelo resigns. If that happens, the move came from above Angelo, and he realizes he has no power, is pissed, and quits. Will it happen? Probably not, but it's the feeling I get of how this will all play out, and that may not be a bad thing depending on who the replacements are.
