no matter what happens tonight good or bad, tice is touted (by the media) as such a great offensive line coach. wasn't he a former tight end now coaching the line? lovie has all ex coaches who failed at their prior jobs . i know the line talent is poor (JERRYS FAULT) but can we drop the talk about what a great job tice is doing, i believe his great coaching amounted to 52 sacks allowed last year worst in the nfl.

Tice was touted as a great OL coach before he got to Chicago. He earned that reputation.

He can't magically make these guys good. For the most part, they just suck. Not too much coaching can do when the talent isn't there.

And to be fair, the O-line was a helluva lot better at the end of the year, than they were at the beginning.

They are looking pretty good tonight. So does Cutler. If the receivers could catch, we would really be moving the ball.

If they can run the ball like they did in game 1 everyone would consider it a pretty good line.

Tice did a very good job. The line got better all year.

I thought the OL improved when Martz's play-calling changed and Tice realized he fucked up by putting Garza at left guard instead of right guard.

Yeah he moved things around til it worked. Getting use out of Omiyale and recognizing Webb's talent and Williams limitations.

So did the OL actually improve, or did the play-calling finally fit with the personnel? If you initially screw things up, how much credit should you get for eventually getting things right?

Not saying Tice isn't a good coach, but I'm not sure I agree with the conventional wisdom that he did a great job last year due to the "improved" performance of the OL--especially since it was his initial inability to evaluate talent accurately that made the line perform so poorly in the first place.

Not entirely. Add in a dash of "Chris Williams is the number one pick and he's gonna have to play"

But point taken. I value a guy who can change and get better as the year goes on though.

I agree about the value of his flexibility. I also think he had a lot to do with the Carimi pick, and I think he will be a very good player.

You have a for instance or something that one of the lineman could improve on that is considered coachable?

Recognizing blocking responsibilities and setting up in the appropriate stance.

A genius and a mad scientist working together should be able to deliver something no worse than a top-5 offense, no?

If you give the best chef in the world 2 pieces of shit, and tell him to bake you something... you're still going to have 2 pieces of shit.

Tice did a great job with the Vikings and with all the raw and bad talent the Bears had last year he made it work. Frank Ohmygod looked like a legit NFL lineman last year.
